I hand sculpted a puakenikeni half-lei and out of air dry clay my boss gave me as a special gift for my hanai mom.
Hanai is an important concept here in Hawaii of βchosen family.β She really is like my second mom β€οΈ
Hereβs a real one for reference. Not my pic.
Shout out to my public library for putting on a lei making class this AAPI Month! The librarian leading the program is native Hawaiian and the example leis are actually ones her family made! The type of lei we made is called wili lei, a traditional Hawaiian lei made by winding or twisting (wili) foliage and flowers onto raffia. I had a lot of fun and am so grateful to have had the opportunity to participate πΊπΏπΌπ±πΈ
