edlendír had grown up learning to CREATE, to tend to the forests, to heal — practical things. gentle things that would guarantee him a path forward despite the views of humans. connected worlds did not guarantee HARMONIOUS ones, but he dared think himself lucky — because of her.
❛ this is… impressive spellwork. , @legendsung
color rises to his face, the light from the small patch of herbs fading — ❛ you think so? ❜
❛ well, the gifts of nature can be underrated — a lot of times, people are more interested in things like the rift and its key, or learning to make objects weightless, or creating doorways and folded spaces ... ❜ but she liked his spellwork. someone like him, closer to a greenwitch than a powerful wizard, and certainly a far cry from a shaman! she thought his simple magic impressive.
or, maybe just this once, he could dare to imagine that it was not his MAGIC she was so captivated with, but him. maybe it wasn’t so one-sided after all. a human princess with a common elktaur rift-worker; wouldn’t that be a story to tell? it would be lovely, wouldn’t it. to have her love, for her to love him as he was — and maybe, maybe she did.
she knelt by his side, a warm smile upon her face, and he realized how close she really was. close enough to ... if he leaned forward ... he’d be able to kiss her, wouldn’t he. ( take your chance before it’s gone! / if there are no words, then act! / didn’t you learn not to keep good things waiting? )
if he closed the distance ... maybe, maybe, maybe — ! maybe, a miracle would happen. because surely, under any normal circumstances, a common elktaur would never meet the standards of a human princess. their circumstances are not so normal. instead, he remembers that they live in a world of magic ( soft, she’s soft / his heart hammers in his chest / the world falls away ).
he dares to create a miracle.
