I like it. We as a fandom have been sitting on the possibility of happy AUs where a gaggle of princelings pine (platonically or otherwise) after the Jedi who inspired them to take action, to be better versions of themselves, or to never lose hope - all while Ahsoka remains blissfully unaware that she’s a nobility magnet.

“The Mon Calamari are central to the destruction of the Empire.  And it wil not happen without me.  I know this to be true.” “A twitch of my finger could end you forever.  You are central to nothing.  You do not matter.  You have been lied to.” The thing that really gets me about this comic is just how hard it goes on this being all about Darth Vader and the choices he makes.  Pretty much every single arc up to this point has been about illustrating that Anakin had choices he could have made--that’s why the paths of these different Jedi are so central to the story, he’s being shown these examples of the choices he could have made, even to the point that a kyber crystal literally shows him his path that he could have chosen, all while he stands there and denies that anything else is possible, that, “No.  This is all there is.”--and then we get the above scene. “You are central to nothing.  You do not matter.  You have been lied to.” It’s not a perfect reflection, because none of them are, but this is a Darth Vader story, an Anakin Skywalker story, and ultimately this is a comic about getting into his character and showing us new facets of him. For all that Darth Vader is the most dangerous man in the Empire in a lot of ways, the Empire isn’t really about him, he’s not central to it.  It would have happened regardless of what his answer to Palpatine’s lure was, the creation of it had nothing to do with him.  The Empire, at this point, isn’t really even about Palpatine (aside from the creation of it and then a lot of what he was using what was already there), but about how George Lucas talks about how democracies hand things over to dictatorships.  It’s about how bickering and corruption in the Senate leads to a dictatorship.  Star Wars: Propabanda lays it out clearly that the public was being let down by the Republic, especially the outer worlds that felt ignored in favor of the Core. The Empire is about something much better than these two people, they are not central to it.  Darth Vader wants desperately to believe that none of this could happen without him, that he’s the biggest, baddest technological terror the Empire has, the boogeyman to end all boogeymans.  The dark side promised him power and he did everything that was asked, so he must be central to everything that has been happening! But he’s been lied to.  From the Emperor.  From the dark side.  And most especially from himself.  He lies to himself more thoroughly than anyone, in how he cannot admit how deeply he fucked up, how deep into a sunken cost fallacy he’s fallen. But he sure as hell can project it onto someone else.  Because this is a Darth Vader comic and these stories are meant to show us insights into him and this one just slams it home that everything Vader thinks he’s sacrificing for some bigger purpose?  He’s building towards nothing of any meaning.  He’s central to nothing on this path of darkness.  He only matters in what he tears apart, not what he builds.  And he has been lied to.
