NEW TV ADS FOCUS ON ECONOMIC
LECET has launched a new series of television commercials during broadcasts of St. Louis Cardinals baseball pre-game shows and to Charter cable television subscribers. The new ads focus on the way the Laborers and other unions help to keep the economy strong. Anti-union supporters contend somehow that labor unions are partially to blame for the dismal economic condition our state and country are in right now. However, nothing could be further from the truth. As one of the new television ads demonstrates, a Laborer receiving good wages and benefits inturn helps to stimulate the economy by the spending power that worker has at his or her disposal. The ad shows a Laborer and his family shopping at a local grocery store. Because the Laborer has a decent salary, he is able to purchase food, clothing and other items needed for daily living. When the Laborer shops, he helps support the clerk working at the store, the delivery drivers who bring products to the store and even the employees at the production plant that helped process and package the goods sold at the store. With a good salary, that Laborer is able to buy more items than another individual who cannot spend as much because his/her salary is lower.
Another new ad focuses on how a Laborer provides for his family by sending his children to school. The question is asked, āHow many doctors, lawyers and other professionals were able to attend college and get their start because a parent, as a member of the Laborers or another union, earned enough money to send them to school?ā Or the Laborer himself was able to attend college by working and paying his own way to college. Both of these ads are an attempt to show that the Laborers and other unions help the economy more than hurt it. A final ad also highlights the skills a Laborer brings to a work place by the training he/she has received through apprenticeship and other continuing education requirements. Not only are skills highlighted, the safety record of Laborers is touted. Part of the training a Laborer receives focuses on the safety training for the worker and how that training helps keep the public safe around work sites. The training a Laborer receives and the safety taught help increase productivity at the job site and in turn reduces construction cost, another benefit to the economy. Look for our new ads when watching television or listening to the radio. Radio ads with a similar message are being broadcast during Mizzou football games and will be used during the basketball season.
