The past two days I've tried to avoid thinking and preparing for our life after Brooklyn.  No Podcasts about raising chickens, consciously ignoring my inner Rosemary Gladstar, no manipulating excel files calculating our monthly expenses, and I've even blocked out most day dreams about working the land instead of in a tall building.

Well, I am back now - slightly overwhelming, overwhelmingly excited.  

There were two scenarios debated: A and B. 

Scenario A -  Make the move out of the city, pursue the life that we've both grown up in. Have a 9-5, and live the life expected by society.

Scenario B -  Make the move out of the city, create our own path. Become sustainable, create a community, freedom of a 9-5. 

We've whole heartedly agreed.

What is next to come? Monthly budget and refreshing the pre-approved mortgage. 

We continue to tweak our country monthly budget. Fine tuning it night after night, figuring out what an appropriate mortgage would be. This city has given me experience in many realms, but I'm severely lacking in home ownership, car ownership and any insurance that goes along with it. I am new, we are new to all of this. 

Yesterday, a single phone call changed my life.  Before this call, Alyssa and I were plotting our exit from the city (live in Brooklyn and we work in Manhattan).  We couldn't quite figure out how to make the transition from city living to homesteading work financially, but within this bittersweet phone conversation our opportunity for dream chasing went from a vision to something real.

Four months and seven days is the earliest in which we can leave. Due to my current employment situation, being somewhat financially responsible would make July 1, 2013 the earliest exit date from the city. I say somewhat financially responsible because leaving a six figure job in order to live off the land and start living seems foolish by the majority, but seems absolute right for Alyssa and I (oh and Umphrey, Squeaks, and Van Zandt too).

My goals by the end of 2013 will be the following:

Get House

Get Car

Bees

Chickens / Chicken Coop

Green House

Prep for Herb Garden

Prep for Vegetable  Garden
