Rose hadn't expected there to be anyone standing around as she took her usual shortcut, walking down Glass Street rather than fighting her way through the crowds on the main strip. Glass Street wasn't the safest place to be alone at night, she had to admit, but she'd taken it dozens of times before and had successfully avoided any kind of problems.
Too bad there's a first time for everything.
There had been a man standing by one of the buildings, an old boutique that closed early in the day, leaving no one around to be watching the store after the sun went down. Rose watched the man warily as she walked past, keeping her eyes on him as she focused on keeping a brisk pace. She had thought she was in the clear when he finally made a move to come at her. She had just been about to reach a side road that lead to the main strip, a place she could feel safer as she blended into the crowd, but he caught her before she made it, him moving at an impossible speed as he pinned her against a nearby wall.
Everything was a blur after that, the world suddenly going still as a sharp pain pierced Rose's throat. The last thing she could remember was screaming...
Now she stood at the door to Peter's flat, her hand shaking on the doorknob as tears trailed down her cheeks. Her head was feeling fuzzy as the world seemed to spin around her, and her throat burned, thirsty for something that Rose didn't even want to think about. She knew what was happening to her, of course. She'd heard from Peter all the stories he knew of vampires and how, even though people didn't believe in them, they were everywhere. Even after all the stories, Rose never imagined she'd ever run into one, much less be turning in to the monster that Peter hated so much. It broke her heart to think that he would hate her once she walked through that door, once he saw what she was becoming.
Finally, after taking in an unnecessary deep breath, Rose pushed open the door. She instantly began seeking out Peter's face, tears still forming in her eyes as she pushed the door closed behind her. "Peter?" She called out, her voice cracking as she said his name. She really didn't want him to see her like this, but she knew she had no other choice.
