“Basic shapes to practice” To make a mandala you need to first learn about shapes. It becomes very easy to draw a mandala 1s you understand the basics on different types of shapes. When I say this it does not mean that there is a fixed type of shape that you have to draw from, No! you can create any type of shape that you like. There are so many types of shapes from which you can choose. Such as: Circles, Petals, Geometric, Pointed edged shapes, Curves, flowers etc.
This opens a world of more possibilities! Try this; take any shape from the list or even the 1 that you have created. Now replicate that shape by overlapping the 1st point of the 2nd shape to the center of the 1st shape. Isn’t this like magic. You can also create more patterns and shapes by not joining the 1st and center point but randomly spacing it while overlapping.
NOTE: Maintain the overlapping distance throughout. Don’t keep on changing it or ells you won’t be able to move to the upcoming steps and your mandala will look deformed.
“Line Thickness”
Line Thickness adds an additional character to the mandala. You can play with line thickness throughout a single mandala. E.g: You can increase or decrease the visual weightage. If you are repeating the Motif on each layer you can use the line thickness technique to give your mandala a break.
Stick Around and ill #teach you everything about mandala. Soon you will be able to draw extreme professional #mandala’s.
“Shape Fill – Flat”
The Shapes that we have been learning simply fill them up with black or any colour of your choice.
“Fill – Double Line”
As simple as create a shape + draw a smaller shape of the same inside then choose which ever you wish to fill.
“Fill – Double Shape”
Take 1 external shape + 1 different internal shape = Mixing of shape + Fill 1 of the shape.
This can be a bit tricky if you can’t foresee how it will look when it all comes together. Try and pay more attention when you practice this type.
How this will be of any use? you may ask. Don’t worry, everything will make sense 1s we start making circles! So hang around, keep practicing and we will be doing circles in no time.
Now let’s learn layers. There are so many ways to draw layer after layer. See how I have drawn a couple of examples showing different techniques. Read between the lines. Try and understand how I made these layers. Then practice them on paper in your own way. The more you practice the more combinations & more designs you will be able to think of.
It is very important that you understand and learn this as this is what will make your #Mandala more and more interesting.
