Reading your response to that previous Anon makes me want to start learning another language. Any tips for starting to learn a language? (Also you're so nice and patient omg I love you đđ)
Oh my god yaaay!! Itâs never too late to start learning a new language as well!! đ Keep that in mind! Aww I love you too!! Iâm happy it made you want to learn a new one youâre awesome!!
Okay Iâll try listing some more tips that have been helpful for me !
Select the new language you want to learn, wake up one day and decide okay todayâs the day Iâll start learning xÂ
Look up online for teaching blogs for beginners, I usually start with vocabulary cause I remember words easily but if you feel like diving into another section first youâre more than welcome to! One of the hardest, well for me anyway, part of a language is the way you build the sentences, itâs different for several languages so take some time to focus on this.
Letâs say youâve looked up at some vocabulary already, learn how to say or how to write some sentences, âhello, my name is, Iâm x years old, I have siblingsâ etc⌠just like when weâre kids the first things we learn are how to introduce ourselves Iâd say letâs learn languages as kids!Â
Learn things that makes you happy or hobbies in that language, itâll increase your interest to learn because youâre linking it with something you like !Â
Do mental quizzes, like out of the blue âhow do you say this in xâ and answer yourself I donât know is it weird?? I do that all the time lmao âhow do you say Monday in xâ If you canât do it you can always look up online for quizzes they even give you a mark nowadays the nerve lol
Read children books at first when youâre a beginne, my japanese teacher made us read children books because the words were easier and more in our nivel itâs really like being a kid and learning how to speak, they use simple words and simple sentences body.
Speak to yourself, I honestly donât care if I sound weird but do it! Mentally tell yourself what you have to do in the target language, I can wake up like âoh what a beautiful day para ir de compras et me mijoter un bon petit plat parce que jâai la dalleâ Itâs honestly good to practice !
Learn with a friend?? I know I know it is hard to work with friends around cause you wanna laugh and such but itâs so much more motivating to do it in duo?? I used to go through my lessons with my classmates and we were having a great time but we did study for our tests and that motivated me so much because then we were dying to practice what we learnt and we waated to go to restaurants or even fly for a few days there ! Just force yourself to be a little serious with it!Â
When you have some free time, watch cartoons in that language, again because it is for kids it is gonna be simple, who say youâre too old for cartoons?? Pff thatâs how I learned! Tom and Jerry didnât have dialogues but I grabbed all the signboard and I was unconsciously using them in class.
Watch your shows dubbed by the language youâre interesed in with subtitle in your first langauge so you can read the subtitle and listen to grab whatever you can and then eventually little by little I bet you wonât need the subtitles anymore
Donât be too hard on yourself, again learning a new language is hard and itâs frustrating when you thing youâre improving/learning fast and then you canât speak to people or exchange I get it Iâve been there but still do what you can and keep practicing whatever you say I bet people will just think whoah thatâs so nice that youâre learning our language though we want to help.
Aah I hope these are helpful !! đ DONâT FALL IN LAZY ROUTINE! Like working 2 weeks and letting go for the next 6 months :â) if you wanna be efficient work a little everyday! I sometime pick a word in French and find the translation for that word in different languages thatâs also how I elaborate my vocab and since sometimes theyâre even similar (similaire see what I did there? lol) you wonât have a hard time remembering themÂ
Music has got to be one of the useful thing you can use to learn a new language ! I learned English from it, I listened to my fave song and I looked up at the translation, I wasnât even good in English at that point I barely could build a correct sentence but from taking on slang, words and concept I did learn lots from music ! Because it stays in your head you know? It sticks with you so use it as an asset !Â
I hope these have been useful cutie! Go a learn every language of the world and lemme know Iâll motivate ya! đ
