Dr. Clayton Lawrence, founder and CEO of LEAP Foundation DC, continues to globally expand on the nonprofit organization’s mission to “bridge the gap between hope and achievement.” A recent trip to India not only has allowed LEAP Foundation DC to offer financial support for Mentor Me India, which aims to “empower children from low-income groups by providing them with strong role models in the form of mentors,” but it presented an opportunity for Dr. Lawrence to participate in his 106th marathon. LEAP Foundation DC is pleased to award a 2018 LEAP Scholarship to Jamaru Williams, a student at Xaverian High School. The scholarship honors a student who, through studying abroad, will nurture a natural drive to be a leader. This year's Bruges, Belgium, exchange will take place from Feb. 16 through 26, and includes a visit to Paris, France, where the rich architecture and art will be thoroughly explored. Williams hopes to soak up some of the residual energy of his favorite artist, Vincent van Gogh, who he credits for inspiring him to seize the opportunity. 'I am seeking. I am striving. I am in it with all my heart,' – this quote is from one of my personal pillars of wise, artistic energy," Williams said. "I am interested in a great opportunity that'll hopefully help shape me into the leader I aspire to be one day. The 2017 LEAP Foundation DC Toy Drive, held Dec. 19, is featured in the January. 11, 2018 Washington Informer @washinformer edition of Social Sightings. More than 100 guests attended this year’s festivities, allowing the Foundation to provide gifts to two families who participate in the Latino Student Fund (LSF).
