#lead weights

So sorry for the pun.

I am taking forks that I’ve picked up here and there, and turning them into weight claws for knitting machines and circular sock machines.

One of the things each fork needs is a weight. So I picked up some lead fishing weights to add to each one. The weights don’t need to be super heavy; they just need to help with the downward pull on the rows.

The lead weights are grey. And I kind of like grey, but I also have cool chalk paint. So guess what!

Yes, I am painting them. And yes, they rock!

The pink ones are painted with AmericanaDecor Chalky Finish Paint in reminisce

And the blue ones are dipped into Fat Paint in Mykonos.

Overview

Counterweight Options

There are many options for counterweight designs in geometry and material. Although steel is a good option, in many instances it alone cannot attain the goals, so other metals such as lead must be used. Lead is 31% more dense than steel.

Lead Counterweights- A Good Option

Since lead melts at a relatively low temperature, it allows for steel shells or other components to be filled. It can also be cast into shapes that allow it to be poured into a tool providing a lead weight that can be installed into a specific geometry. Lead counterweights can be powder coated or painted to cover the lead for handling purposes.
