“Pierce makes a mean tortilla soup. Barely spoke a word of Spanish when I met him, but that soup more than made up for it. It only got better once we moved back to Puerto Rico.”

poppy–what color was your childhood home?

Valerio “Vali” Mendoza ( the testament ) ;

     A youth Marisol first encountered during a program they helped to set up in Guadalajara, Mexico that rehabilitated high-risk drug addicts. Vali had been compelled through violence and manipulation to work for a major drug cartel that had control of the area at the time. He had lost three siblings and countless friends to this cartel, so when they threatened his family’s business and personal safety, he reluctantly joined them and subsequently became addicted to heroin. Marisol supervised the treatment of physical symptoms in patients affiliated with the program for the first few months, and assisted with some therapeutic efforts, which is how they met.      Valerio was difficult at first, subject to some of the worst withdrawal symptoms, especially the spikes of depression and agitation. But despite this, or perhaps because Marisol could see and understand how much he was suffering, they didn’t give up on him. It took a number of months, but by the time Marisol was ready to move on to their next humanitarian project, he had become quite the success story. The two of them had gotten very close and kept in contact after Marisol left Mexico, and last they heard Vali was working as a tattoo artist, and volunteering for the very program that had rehabilitated him. 

Aster: Would you rather be cold or hot?

“Cold. Look, I know I’m Puerto Rican but I’ve been in cold climates way more to feel comfortable in the heat. Plus with cold weather you can get a bunch of blankets and a hot drink and get cozy. It’s much harder to cool off than it is to warm up, at least in my opinion.”  

Marigold: Do you listen to what's on the radio?

“Well not anymore,” Andrea laughed “but back on earth I did. At least when I wasn’t listening to podcasts. Which I can’t even imagine how many more there are now. If Podcasts are still a thing that is.”

Magnolia: Favorite kind of candy?

“Easy, kit kat bar. They are delicious and shareable. Although the only person I really would share it with is Emma.”

Azalea: What's a movie you cried while watching?

While Emma does not snore, she is a (scarily?) unpredictable sleeper. Some nights, she does not budge an inch. Other nights, she is a notorious cover thief. And yet on others, she clings to whatever or whoever is closest and does not let go.

♦ quirks/hobbies headcanon

One of the landside activities that Emma was depressed to leave behind was elaborate event planning. She does not even have to know the subject(s) of the occasion to happily design the place settings and stencil out some decorations. The result is never anything like to event planning professional, but nobody has complained yet. On the ship, it’s a bit difficult to plan a good color scheme with limited supplies that she neglected to bring.

she can never sleep when it’s completely silent; she needs at least some white noise to help her fall asleep. on the Argo, she sleeps with headphones in and some of her favorite music playing.

♦ - quirks/hobbies headcanon

for a while, in her teens, Serra took up quilling – the craft where you coil narrow strips of colorful paper into spirals of various sizes and then arrange them into elaborate images. there was something meditative about it that she liked, something tesellative about the way the spiral shapes fit together, and her dads still have a couple of very elaborate art pieces hanging up around their home. she moved into origami, after that, for a little bit, and sometimes when she’s stressed out she’ll still rip, twirl, or fold paper into shapes just to give her hands something to do.
