THE MOMENT THEY WERE DISMISSED AFTER TRAINING YESTERDAY, bradley didn't hang around; immediately going home as soon as he could. hangman's words swirled around in his mind the whole journey back, emotions raw and that unsettling sensation of ADRENALINE crawling through his veins following his outburst and the subsequent altercation. sure, he'd had his differences with the fellow pilot — that was no secret to anyone — but he'd been completely caught off guard when hangman mentioned his father and his untimely demise on the job, throwing it in his face in front of all the others. even now, as he returns to the base ( he's early today, but not entirely sure why ) he still hasn't figured out why it happened. was it a screwed up way of motivating him to do better?
it's rare that the other man got the better of him, with most of hangman's comments rolling off his back, his disposition remaining firmly composed; even sometimes giving a little back what he received. truth be told, MAVERICK’S return is what had him uneasy, bringing all sorts back to the surface. mav's presence as he grew up, the death of his father... the pulling of his papers to the naval academy. clearly, he hadn't come to terms with some things. feelings never were his forte. his anger is less acute after having had time to cool off, but he can't pretend hangman didn't get under his skin yesterday. everyone saw it for themselves, and he can only HOPE they won't mention it and they can all move on; focus on the mission again.
he tries to push his thoughts and feelings back down — bury them so deep they can never reemerge. a tall order for such an overthinker. he starts to feel a little better, more focused on work again... but then he sees a familiar figure approaching, and his stature stiffens, teeth briefly clenching, eyes AVERTING. he hates to show that something has gotten to him; especially if it’s coming from jake. once other man is within earshot, the uttered greeting is frosty, abrupt, simply an acknowledgement rather than a welcome. “ ...hangman. ” plotted with @lcvesdeath.
