POPPIN' WIRE at live: Lay Zhang Unveils "Flawed Crown" Through an Immersive Global Listening Event in Kuala Lumpur
Kuala Lumpur became one of the first cities in the world to step inside Lay Zhang’s new era as the Chinese singer, dancer, producer, and actor brought the Lay Zhang Global Listening Event to Malaysia on 27 June 2026. Held at Unifi Arena, Bukit Jalil, the showcase served as one of the earliest international presentations of his upcoming album "Flawed Crown," transforming what could have been a conventional listening session into an immersive, arena-scale experience.
Rather than simply previewing new music, the event was designed as a theatrical introduction to the world of "Flawed Crown." Concert-level staging, cinematic visuals, and specially prepared performance segments guided fans through the album’s concept and artistic direction, creating the feeling of witnessing the opening chapter of a major new project. In a greeting video shown during the event, Lay described Kuala Lumpur as one of the earliest stops introducing the vision behind "Flawed Crown" to audiences around the world.
The showcase unfolded as a carefully curated musical journey through both Lay's past and future. The first half blended previews from Flawed Crown with performances of tracks including "Again," "Living," "Smoke and Mirrors," and "Crossfire," before transitioning into fan favourites such as "Psychic," "Would U Be Mine," and "Run Back to You." The energy then shifted into a high-octane EDM section featuring "Step," "Sucker," "Let's Shut Up & Dance," "Sheep," and a special "SHUFFLE" performance, showcasing the diverse musical palette that has become synonymous with Lay's artistry.
One of the night's defining highlights was the ambitious stage production, which was complemented by a series of exclusive visual premieres. Throughout the showcase, fans were treated to first looks at music videos including Nao Tian Gong, Dou Zhan Sheng Fo, and the closing reveal of Call My Name, further expanding the cinematic world of Flawed Crown.
The main performance area was transformed into a shallow pool of water, with Lay performing choreography directly in the water during key sections of the show. Combined with aerial performance sequences, water effects, and large-scale cinematic visuals, the production blurred the boundaries between concert, theatre, and visual art, creating one of the most visually striking presentations associated with the "Flawed Crown" era so far.
Throughout the event, the emphasis remained firmly on immersion. The transitions between music previews, live performances, and visual storytelling were structured to give fans a deeper sense of the album’s atmosphere rather than simply presenting individual songs in isolation. Even without a fully confirmed official setlist, the showcase succeeded in introducing "Flawed Crown" as a project built around mood, narrative, and spectacle.
Closing with "大花轿" and "北京的雨", the evening completed a narrative journey that connected Lay's established catalogue with the creative vision of Flawed Crown. More than a listening event, Kuala Lumpur's stop felt like an exclusive invitation into the next chapter of his artistic evolution, combining unreleased music, cinematic storytelling, and concert-scale production into an experience that was both immersive and memorable.
