The biggest challenge has either been writer’s block, or the feeling that no one actually likes my story and that the friends who read and comment on it are just doing so to be nice. But neither of those answers are any fun. So I’ll say that Solas’s PoV can be a challenge. Not just because writing someone else’s character is always tricky, but also because it distances the reader (and me) from my own character. I have to get creative sometimes to make sure some part of Briallen’s personality is coming across in each chapter.As for your last question, I’m not entirely sure. During my first playthrough of the game (which was also the first time I romanced Solas), my character was basically just a stand-in for me. At that point I had no plans to start writing for the DA fandom. I just wanted to play the game and move on. When I realized that I actually wanted to write about Solavellan (actually, it felt more like I had no choice in the matter), I knew I needed a new character. I always try to avoid self-insert characters in my writing because frankly, I find myself boring. So I needed someone a bit more interesting, and Briallen was what I came up with. I was trying to figure out what kind of person Solas would fall in love with and why, but I can’t recall the exact thought process that led me to Bri. I think maybe I was originally going for a manic pixie dream girl with unsuspected depth, but I ended up with something rather different.Thank you so much for your kind words!
