she  was  curled  up  on  the  couch  next  to  him  ,  her  head  resting  in  his  lap  .  emmeline  had  a  least  three  blankets  wrapped  around  the  two  of  them  at  this  point  .  she  turned  her  head  to  look  at  him  and  grinned  .  “  of  course  we  can  watch  another  episode  .  “  she  reached  up  and  placed  a  hand  on  the  side  of  his  face  .  “  we  don’t  have  anywhere  to  be   ,  right  ?  “

Ches leans back from where she is sitting on her counter, raising an eyebrow at Leo. “No, we’re just talking before you get any today. Come on, it won’t kill you to have a conversation with me. We used to have them before this arrangement.” She pats the spot next to her on the counter. “Plus, unless we’re having sex in the kitchen - you’re waiting on those cookies to come out anyway. It’s not my fault they’re taking longer than I thought they would and it’s cutting into your sex time. As soon as they’re out, you can do whatever you want to me. Promise.”

               “  yeah  ,  of  course  i  am.  ”  a  lie  ,  accompanied  by  a  kind  smile  she  only  shows  to  him.              “  maybe  not  –-  RIGHT  NOW  ,  but  i  think  overall  i  am  ,  you  know  ?  ”  happiness  is  a  foreign  concept  to  her  ,  but  she  can  still  fake  it.  wasn’t  there  a  study  that  showed  if  you  smiled  enough  ,  you’d  feel  happy.            “  are  you  ?  ”

          “  some  peace  and  quiet.  i  mean  ,  we’re  in  a  small  town  so  even  when  i  was  alone  ,  i’ve  never  felt  alone.  maybe  i  just  need  some  quiet  time  ,  you  know  ?  without  someone  yapping  in  the  background  or  starting  drama.  ”  she  lets  a  sigh  slip  past  her  lips  ,  a  tired  smile  crossing  her  features.          “  or  ,  i  don’t  know  –  a  dog  ?  ”

          “  is  this  a  trap  where  i  have  to  say  leo  lauder  or  else  you’ll  never  talk  to  me  ?  ”  a  poor  attempt  at  a  joke  ,  but  she’s  never  felt  safer  than  when  she’s  with  him.  and  chandler.          “  balo’s  house  is  a  fortress  though  ,  i  can’t  be  more  grateful  for  her  –  allowing  me  to  move  in  ,  she’s  an  angel.  ”
