coffee at noon || laura & jake
It hardly qualified as early, but Jake couldn't think of a better way to get to know his roommate than over a cup of coffee. That, and maybe the fact that he'd been letting himself sleep in a few minutes later each day since moving to Hideaway had influenced his decision to make a run down to Starbucks. He planned to enjoy the last few days of a holiday that he had in the laziest ways possible, which meant all the sleep he could get and enjoying the condo's amenities. So far, having a Starbucks so close was one of the most enjoyable things. It made transitioning from his life in New York back to Los Angeles a little easier, considering that there was definite truth in the saying of "Starbucks being on every corner" in big cities. Unfortunately, he knew he'd have to kick his lazy habits and get back to work before long.
Pushing thoughts of long distance work plans out of his mind, Jake balanced the to-go carry of coffee on one arm while he fumbled with his keycard. After a few seconds, he gained access back into his shared condo with Laura and pushed the card back into his pocket. It was already past noon, and Jake hoped that his roommate was still around so they could go through the motions of getting to know each other. He was hoping to bypass too much smalltalk - and perhaps the coffee would provide the influence to do so - but from the few times they'd said hello in passing, Jake was at least confident they wouldn't wind up hating each other and have a roommate feud on their hands.
Jake headed for the kitchen, setting the coffee carrier on the counter as he started to pull out a barstool for himself. He'd gotten his usual for himself and for Laura he'd apprehensively ordered a black coffee, not knowing what she liked. Generic coffee was usually a safe bet and better than receiving a drink to over-saturated in sugars and syrups. To make up for it, Jake had stuffed a few sugars and creamers in one of the empty cup holder slots and snagged two muffins for the both of them. For now, he settled in, pulling his cup of coffee from the holder to take a sip.
