This week I made my first trip to Canada. I was a bit late in my arrival, but my host Launny was relieved to find me safe & sound. Well, not quite sound. I was feeling somewhat unwell & presumed I had picked up some sort of travel bug. Fortunately my host is a young physician & promptly took me to the Teddy Bear Clinic at the provincial Children's hospital. The Canadian health care system was exceptional, and they only laughed at me a little bit when they diagnosed me with a heart ache. I suppose Valentine's Day made me miss a certain bunny even more than usual. I could send her a Valentine, but don't think she would appreciate it.
After patching me up (figuratively, as my yarn & seems are still in good condition) we toured the city. I was excited to watch some of the Olympics (Launny's cousin is playing hockey!) and see some old Olympic venues from the 1988 games in Calgary. I also received my own red bandana & white cowboy hat - customary gifts in the cowboy capital of Canada. I even saw the world famous Calgary stampede grounds, home of one of the largest rodeos in the world which has run for over 100 years.
Unfortunately because Launny was "on call" I was unable to make a trip to the beautiful Rocky Mountains, but I enjoyed looking at them in the distance.
I also made friends with many very nice stuffies (Miss Bunnet would be proud that I continue to push myself socially, overcoming my shyness & mingling with the country folk) as well as Launny's cat, Moxie. I was incredulous at first & worried that she thought of me more as a scratching toy than a companion, but yet again my first impressions were misleading.
I am off to an exotic location now- the Philippines! I did ask about seeing Winnipeg, Manitoba while I was here, but learned it is a 12 hour drive from Calgary. Too bad, as I've heard it's a bustling metropolis, or something to that effect.
