Project 3: Bare Bones - Describing Complex Form
This aim of project 3 was to develop and demonstrate my ability to:
+ ACCURATELY MEASURE A COMPLEX FORM + DOCUMENT A COMPLEX FORM IN A 2 DIMENSIONAL DRAWING FORMAT + FURTHER DEVELOP AND PRACTISE MY SKILL AT USING CAD + DEVELOP HAND SKILLS RELATED TO MODEL MAKING + TRANSLATE A 2 DIMENSIONAL DRAWING INTO A 3 DIMENSIONAL MODEL + DEVELOP VISUAL COMMUNICATION METHODS TO DESCRIBE FORM + CRITIQUE MY WORK AND THAT OF OTHERS

In project 3, we are required to have the following things:
+ A2 AutoCAD Drawing + Foam Core Model
On the presentation day, we are required to display in our own style of way that is acceptable, appropriate and in manner. Therefore this is what I did:
Since my dumbbell doesn't have a stand for it, this brought my attention to make something that will be attractive and neat. So I decided to use cramp tools and cramps it to a big wooden block and use the long rectangle stick that allows the cramps to adjust as a stand [Display in the Picture]. Besides, I used a rope to wrap around the two cramp tools to create the sporty and athletic gym vibes since dumbbell is count as a sports equipment.

Reflection
What I can say about my project 3 are:
I did broke the brief on the fact where I supposed to make the model out of foam core, but instead, I made it out of thick screen board. It was pretty solid when I have formed all of the pieces together. It also pretty heavy in a comparison with foam core model.
Difficulty: There were few difficulties when working on project 3. The first difficulty was cutting the screen board templates. it was hard on the fact that the screen board tends to break apart because the cutting section was too small. It also hard to cut small pieces out of the screen board since the thickness of the screen board is pretty thick. The second difficulty was when inserting all the pieces together. It sounds easy, but when I get to actually do it, it was pretty hard. It was so fragile. If I put too much force pushing the pieces into each other, it will break. I have to apply soft force to each piece. Last, but not least, the third difficulty was gluing. I didn’t know that PVA glue doesn’t work well on screen board after I used it. It was too late for me to change it to super glue so I decided to stick with PVA. I thought it was that bad because the pieces were meant to stick weren’t stick. I tried to hold it for 5 minutes and used a hairdryer to blew on it and it did actually work. It was hard, but end up to be alright.
Error: Some templates didn’t fit perfectly tight to each other. This happened because of the way I cut it. I feel like I didn’t cut it accurately to the sample template that sticks onto the screen board.
Resolve: To solve this error, I need to be more careful with my cutting. I should snap my blades on my knife every 10 times and use a clear ruler so then I can see through to the lines. Another solution that could help this error is changing the thickness of the screen board. I should use 3mm thickness instead of 5mm. This allows me to cut faster, easier, and more accurate.
Overall in this project 3, I’ve learned how to model making and creates templates. It was fun and challenging at the same time, but it’s worth it. I like challenges myself because it tends to improve my abilities to become better. Anyhow, project 3 is the last project of semester one and I feel like I didn’t do that well, but it’s alright. I should’ve done it better. Well, I hope that I could do something similar to this project 3 again in the future and definitely, I would do it better.
