#larry dynamics

To some of you, this whole post is gonna be old news. But some of yall seem to desperately need a refresher, so allow me to break down how Harry and Louis' closets are connected and why they intertwine the way that they do. Consider this a reminder of the fact that their closets are still ever-present, still not their choice, and still affected by the fact that they're with each other and not just queer and single.

Harry has been the golden boy since the band days. They tried to market Liam as the face of the band until it became clear that the fans were favouring Harry a lot. This caused a shift to where they put Harry moreso at the forefront, nearly in a "lead singer" type of position. Obviously this was picked up on by people like Jeff Azoff, who started scouting Harry in 2013 to eventually scoop him up as a solo artist.

Louis, on the other hand, was seen as less valuable by Syco and less valuable by other companies. He got stuck with Syco after the band split, only escaping Syco when their company was dissolving. He was somewhat blacklisted, not fully (or he wouldn't have a career right now) but he was limited in where he could go.

When Harry became a solo artist, his fanbase very quickly outgrew the 1D carry-over fans. It grew to the point that Harry was in a different celebrity level altogether, to the point some of his fans have no idea he was even in 1D, and many of his fans have no idea what Larry Stylinson is.

Louis, on the other hand, took a while to start his solo career. He'd spent years being manipulated into believing he was less valuable as a band member and that he wouldn't do well as a soloist, so he took a few years to build up the confidence to start putting out solo albums. This, alongside Syco not particularly liking or helping him, led to his fanbase staying majorly 1D fans and Larries who'd carried over. That isn't a bad thing, but it is relevant.

See, because of the difference in 1D & Larrie populations in Harry and Louis' fanbases, the way their teams (closeters) have to go about denying and minimizing Larry rumours is very different. For Louis, it's verbal denials, social media denials, more harsh phrasings and occasionally even naming Larry Stylinson as the conspiracy he's denying. For Harry, it's usually putting him into a stunt to show the GP he's not gay.

If Harry were to address Larry as directly as Louis does, it would cause more problems than it solves. His fanbase majorly doesn't know or care about Larry Stylinson, so a direct denial from him would just spark more rumours and probably raise a lot of questions as to why he's even bringing up a supposed conspiracy theory from 15 years ago. But for Louis, his fanbase has such a strong Larrie (and Directioner) presence that his denials more effectively damage the thick concentration of Larries that reside in his fanbase. He has very few solo fans who aren't aware of Larry, so there's little risk of sparking new Larries when he does a denial. That's why his denials work so well at making people un-Larrie en masse.

Now, to get into their teams' opinions of them as artists. I wanna start by saying that there is an established pattern of Harry and/or Louis pushing against their closet, followed by the punishment from their teams of Louis doing a denial and Harry starting a new stunt. I know a friend of mine is working on a post showing all of the examples of this pattern, so I won't detail every instance here, but this is a pattern. Anyway, teams & opinions;

Harry, as I said, has always been the golden boy. The money maker. His level of fame means his team has to be VERY good at their job to avoid anything going wrong. His public image is very carefully created, and any controversial aspects (such as his womanizer rep) is very carefully constructed on purpose to add reasonable flavour to his public persona that will attract fans more than it turns them away. His team is smart in that way, and they're always working in the best interest of making Harry palatable to the most amount of people possible.

Louis, on the other hand, doesn't seem to even be liked by his team. He's been kept in this weird stasis where he can't seem to break out of his primarily 1D fanbase, but he also doesn't ever sink out of the industry and get fully blacklisted like people like Katie Waissel or Rebecca Ferguson were. KW and RF have to be fully independent now because of blacklisting, to give an example of how Louis hasn't been fully blacklisted.

Louis' team frequently makes moves that actively damage his rep, and they've been doing this since babygate started. That was a major rep-ruiner, and it's only continued as much as he tries to fight it. The party boy image, the lazy laddy lad image, the homophobia image, none of it helps his career. Zara very MUCH doesn't help his career. His team doesn't even seem to enjoy promoting his shows and works, he doesn't get a ton of radio play, the list could go on and on forever.

Now, if Louis' team doesn't like him, why are they keeping him as an artist? Well, Harry. This is what I mean by they're keeping him in stasis; Louis can't be fully blacklisted and kicked out of the industry as much as his team seems to want to do because that would give him the freedom to talk shit and expose things like KW and RF did after getting blacklisted. Even if he's not a huge 'asset' to his team, the connection to Harry makes his freedom too risky. If Louis were to come out or talk shit because he got blacklisted fully, it would affect Harry's carefully constructed image and career.

Harry is a HUGE artist. Fucking HUGE. His team isn't going to risk something like that, which is why Louis is in this stasis. He isn't allowed to get too big, he's harshly punished for Larrying and hinting at his true self, but he isn't let go entirely as an artist. They keep him tied up in contracts so he can't affect Harry's career. It's very very interwoven.

And yeah, it's not fair. It's not fair to either of them, and I know Harry is likely just as upset by the fact that Louis always gets the shit end of the stick as we are. It's part of this not being their choice, because if this was something either of them could control, the balance wouldn't be so skewed. Closeting is never a willing choice, and in HL's case specifically it's evident that neither of them want the intense closet they're stuck in with all of the things they're forced to say/do to maintain it.

It's so important that we not blame Harry and Louis for their closet. Feeling your feelings when a denial happens is one thing, but be SO mindful of what you post and where you throw your accusations and hate. Remember who is in control here, remember who your enemy really is. This isn't a case of "they made their bed and now they must lie in it," it's a case of over a DECADE of interwoven closeting and contracts and blackmail and threats that has culminated in the dynamics we see today and the patterns that have never once changed.

Yes, they're grown men now, but they were not grown men when they signed their first contracts and when the closeting started. They've been funnelled through the industry in such a way to maintain these closets and maintain these dynamics in the best interest of greedy companies who want to profit off of Harry and minimize how much of a "problem" Louis is. That's where we are at, this has not changed, and if you call yourself a Larrie it is so important to understand the situation they are in so we don't unknowingly aid their closeters by pedalling hate towards HL for a situation they didn't ask to be in.

ive seen a shocking amount of longtime larries lately downplaying the severity of harry and louis' situations, acting as though their signals and codes are "coincidences," and pushing the idea that harry and louis have full control over their PR moves when that has never once been the case in the past 15 goddamn years. and its not just disappointing, its frustrating. where has everyone's critical thinking gone? what changed?

you all talk about how much holivia damaged harry's public image and compare holivia to mcdumblinson, but then in the same breath act like louis is choosing to stunt with zara. is the cognitive dissonance that thick? or are you all now suggesting harry willingly participated in holivia? both of those potential options concern me, frankly.

we can all agree zara is actively damaging louis' public image, right? so, why on earth would louis be stunting with her of his own free will? are you suggesting he's that stupid? because hes not. louis is incredibly intelligent and to pretend hes stupid enough to continue pushing this stunt when its clearly not helping him is insulting.

but i know what question will be begged: "they're multi-millionaires! they're grown men now! dont you think they have the money and freedom now to do what they want?" if that was the case, there wouldnt be anymore stunting. ever. money does not equate to freedom, nor does age. has everyone suddenly forgotten the kinds of contracts these men are under? the professionals they are stuck working for?

in terms of pure financials, yes, they probably could buy out of their contracts. and where would that leave them? blacklisted from the biggest companies in the industry, smeared in retaliation by the media those companies own, and honestly? their lives could be at stake. think of how many incredibly famous artists have died for political reasons or because they challenged the agencies that own them. this isnt to fearmonger, this is to bring up PRECEDENT. precedent you all seem to have willfully forgotten.

but even on top of all that, are we forgetting that these boys have been groomed since they were 16-18? jeff azoff has been scouting harry since 2013, and hes only one example of the terrible people these men have been surrounded by since they were teenagers. harry and louis have never escaped sony. when they respectively escaped syco, they both signed to other labels sony owns. harry has been signed to columbia (and the azoffs) since 2016, and louis has been signed to his companies and labels since 2020 when syco music dissolved. which makes me beg my own question- what the fuck do you all think has changed? in the past 5-9 years (respectively) what do you posit has changed to give harry and louis this freedom youre all claiming they have? theyre still closeted. theyre still being forced to stunt. theyre still being forced to surround themselves with shitty people.

louis looks beyond uncomfortable in every photo with zara. he is clearly not doing this willingly. harry is a genuinely good person, hes not willingly hanging around the likes of KID HARPOON, who GROPED HIM AT THE 2023 GRAMMYS. or did we all forget that? i think we did. zara is from love island, a show louis HATES. shes the type of person he never associates with normally. the azoffs are RIFE with controversy that could make its own fucking masterpost. if you think our harry and louis, two very smart, very kind, very intentional men, are WILLINGLY surrounding themselves with these types of people, you are biting the media koolaid and HELPING THE PROPAGANDA SPREAD.

AND ON TOP OF ALL OF THAT, i want to REITERATE that these two men have been lied to and coerced and groomed since they were teens. that means, in case none of you have ever been in abusive dynamics with authority, that they likely dont know all of their escape options. firstly, their options for escape are few and far between, and at absolute BEST would end their careers and turn them into GP punching bags because of the smear campaigns that would follow any pushback or contract buyouts. secondly, the professionals and lawyers theyve been surrounded with for the past 15 years are all cogs in the industry music machine. even back on TXF we know their lawyers were paid off by syco to push them in the desired direction with what they signed. that was just one reality tv show, and its a microcosm of the industry at large. not only do they have limited options, they dont even know what all of those options are. its not like their abusive managements are gonna tell them how to leave. thats not how this works.

but again, even if they had access to all of their options, even if they had access to unbiased legal advisors, even if they wanted to end their careers- they wouldnt escape without being hurt in some major way. im not talking out of my ass here. look at other cases of major celebrities who have left their labels or publically denounced the industry. look into major artists who have mysteriously died. hell, look into the p. diddy case and the people he put hits out on. open your fucking eyes and look at the precedent you older fans were AROUND FOR. i wasnt even HERE, and i can see it.

my last point is anecdotal, but stick with me here. when you are a victim of an abusive authority figure- in HL's case, the entire industry full of abusive CEOs and managers- for as long as they have (15 years, mind), it becomes less scary to stick to whats familiar. they know its bad, they clearly hate stunting and being closeted, but its a familiar fire to burn in. i know that feeling. i spent 17 years under an abusive authority figure and during the brief windows where i thought i could feasibly get out, i was too scared and far too conditioned to try. taking a stab at HL, id guess this is where theyre at. maybe they could, in some lucky way if everything were to align, escape and minimize the harm they suffer from it. but theyve been conditioned against trying, conditioned against believing in that possibility, and conditioned to go along with what theyre told.

so again i ask, what do you all think changed? why do you think harry and louis are suddenly free to do as they please, after all these years, when theyre still signed to the same companies and still showing signs of distress? when theyre still coding their clothes as a subtle cry for help- which, by the way, never stopped. why on earth did everyone up and decide they stopped coding their clothing? because 1 popular larrie blog said it, and the rest of you parroted it like gospel? was a real reason ever given for that spontainious conclusion, or are you all just reverting back to the comfort of willful ignorance and slurping up the media slop?

nothing has changed with their situations. a lot of you just seem to have stopped fighting for them. its easier to be complacent, to only care about when new music is coming, to not worry about harry and louis as people. to not worry about supporting them and making sure they know that some of us pay attention and know their truth. some of you are losing those tenents, and its upsetting to watch as a newer larrie who has all the conviction in the world to fight for these boys and show them that they are supported.

the attitude ive seen from some of the older larries on here lately is akin to what id expect from the GP, or solos, but not larries. you are all smarter than this and you damn well know it. the downplaying and disregarding of things like louis' plead for our support, the coded clothing, the subtle hints that theyre still being controlled, is actively helping their managers and PR teams sell narratives like mcdumblinson. through your complacency, saying everything is "just a coincidence" or "the boys' choice," you are aiding the enemy in their pursuit.

for one, as much as their songs are usually autobiographical, that doesnt always mean theyre a one-to-one of their romantic relationship with each other. i was watching a conan gray interview the other day (one of his many zach sang ones) and he was talking about how a lot of his songs are inspired by either friendships or relationships hes watched play out close to him. he has some banger breakup songs that have more to do with a friendship falling out or a family dispute than a relationship, and i reckon it could be a similar concept with larry.

for example, a lot of dynamics within the music industry are structured similarly to unbalanced relationships, and finding a way to shift a song about the industry into a breakup song that same industry will unknowingly greenlight is a smart move to get it out there.

similarly, sometimes artists write based on emotions more than anecdotal events. i believe chappell roan has talked about this, how some of the oddly specific lines in her songs never actually happened, but fit the emotion she was aiming to convey. yes, harry and louis write honestly, but that doesnt mean every song is literal down to the last word. matilda is a great example of this, with how it can fit so many stories in his life, and everyone attributes different lines to different people in his life or even him himself.

another aspect to consider is how well breakup songs sell. this industry is bloodthirsty for cash, and while as solos harry and louis do have more songwriting freedom than they did in the band, that doesnt mean its suddenly impossible for the powers that be to push their songwriting in a certain direction. let me paint a scene for you:

lets say louis has a song hes working on. its clearly about the industry and how its screwed him, but the industry itself isnt gonna greenlight that if its aware. so he twists it to sound like a girl, a girl hes had a rocky relationship with, who he cant seem to leave. the industry now loves and greenlights that song, because breakup songs sell.

(also conversely love songs can also be industry coded viva la lemonade but this post isnt about that)

i feel like every time i say "i dont believe harry and louis have ever broken up" im always met with "but their breakup songs!" as if that one very malleable art form is supposed to prove the opposite of the hundreds of hints and signals and touches that proved theyre together in the first place.

Its very clear that some people are only here to add to the kicking when he's already down, at some point over the years it became "cool" to hate him (and harry) for their closets and drag them at every opportunity especially during things they are physically uncomfortable with because they "made their bed now sleep in it" and "why should i feel bad for them they're rich and white and can do whatever they want"

i really hate the narrative that just because HL are rich that somehow means their closets are moot. everyone in the industry at their levels is rich. the people controlling them are rich.

even if they could hypothetically buy out of contracts, that would come with heavy smear campaigns, industry wide blacklisting (for both of them- not just the damper theyve put on louis' reach but FULL blacklisting that ends their careers), legal cases in which they could owe back millions of dollars to the companies who "made them," and in harry's case especially i worry about the possibility of bodily harm threats.

major artists who go against their labels are worth more dead than alive and slandered. we saw how after liam passed away, people streamed his music like crazy and his name was in the news like crazy. that effect doesnt go unnoticed by greedy money-driven lunatics in this industry. theres precedent to major artists going against their label and being killed for it, because the money their name can make postmortem is more than the money their managers could make by running a smear campaign against them.

and the reason i worry about this more with harry is because louis' team already seems keen on fucking up his career any chance they can get, or at the very least not actively helping his career. i truly believe the only reason louis hasnt been pushed out of the industry yet by these horrible people is because of his link to harry. if they push him out, he might say fuck it and come out, which would affect harry's team since now they have to answer on larry when their previous strat was to have harry stay silent on larry.

Stunting in his case is very much part of his closet, and nobody is closeted by choice. As for tweets not being made by him, that's me following precedent. It was proven multiple times in the 1D days that Modest was tweeting for all of their clients, including the boys, and ESPECIALLY including Louis when they wanted to deny Larry. I don't have all of the old receipts, but here's a very good post I found deep-diving the concept as a whole.

I've discussed at length how nothing has meaningfully changed with Louis' situation, so it's not a stretch to think his team is still making some social media posts for him (as any team does, let's be real) with goals in mind. His team now is just more careful than Modest ever was, because Modest was poorly ran. Every celebrity has a social media manager just about (with maybe the exception of Liam Gallagher LMAO his tweets are so unfiltered) so while we can debate all day which exact tweets and posts may not be Louis', it's not outlandish to posit that it's not always him.

On interviews, they're usually scripted to a degree. Maybe not word for word, but the celebs know the questions beforehand (or their managers do) and everything is planned so the PR goal can be achieved. That goes for normal PR stuff like for new albums, but also for things like Larry denials. Louis didn't just off-the-cuff deny Larry in the moment- he was told by his team that he had to deny Larry, it was planned to be brought up in an interview, and then he did his best to fulfill contractual obligations while signalling to us that the words he's saying he doesn't stand behind.

Harry saying nothing about Larry isn't anything to do with his personal feelings, and everything to do with HLs closets and contracts. Harry's team lets him get away with being silent on it, they don't force him into denials every once in a blue moon like Louis' team does. If their teams need a denial done, they always make Louis do it for whatever reason. So instead of muddying the waters even more, Harry is smart and takes advantage of the fact that he isn't forced to speak on it ever. Until the day he and Louis are both free, he will probably stay silent on the topic to protect his and Louis' peace as best as he can.

I like to think that someday they will no longer be tied down by the industry and live freely, but I'm not sure if that is realistic.

i definitely have answered this before in more detail but i cant be assed to go find it so ill answer again with my current thoughts.

i hope theyre able to come out someday, but with babygate in particular thats going to be very difficult if not impossible. it would raise more questions than the industry is prepared to answer, and it would put eyes on the past 15 years of lies.

One of the biggest challenges they face with coming out would be that it would point fingers & add weight to the rumors of closeting the boys, which would tarnish SC & MM. if they were to come out it would have to be in a way that “makes it clear” or looks as though this is all new & never was a thing or issue back in the days of 1D.

I thought everyone would know that they personally have not & do not want to live lies, having to hire women to pretend to be in relationships with them. Does anyone actually believe that H wanted to be with OW, or L wanted to spend 11 years on & off with El. 🤣😂 get real.

im pretty sure katie waissel has confirmed that bit about not shit talking simon, in x-factor contracts at least. i can only imagine syco's other contracts are similar if not harsher. not to forget how much simon has control over the media in the UK.

and youre absolutely right that them coming out would point a finger at syco, simon, modest, and sony as a whole. babygate is so important in that regard. more than anything else in 2025 i really feel like the lingering blame of closeting in the past is the main reason they still arent allowed to come out, since it would spark questions about companies and people who really dont want that bad PR.

its such a relevant post even now. obviously the azoffs bit is dated but most of what they said absolutely still stands and its so sad that it does. i admire the passion in their explanation though, thats the kind of passionate i am with larry. i try to present calm so i dont scare people off, but i get so emotional and passionate about larry and the fact that they both deserve freedom. real freedom.

i hate the argument that money makes emotional turmoil disappear. harry and louis aren't evil corrupt billionaires, theyre famous musicians who have gone through hell and back and still managed to stay together through it all. no amount of money undoes the harsh closets theyre in, the fact they have to hide such integral parts of themselves and their lives, the 15 years of media training, brainwashing, abuse, fearmongering, and stress.
