Out of curiosity, what made you choose Brindleface and Goldenflower as your pair? I haven't seen much of them as a ship and it intrigues me!
I really love trans Brindleface, and I knew I wanted Goldenflower paired with another molly. They clicked well for me, my friend agreed, and as a bonus, it worked perfectly for figuring out family trees. There will be a lot of surrogates in this story, but honestly, it's easier to make trees when you don't have to keep in mind all the cats who have kits that they didn't raise but are still related to them.Bonus tidbit, since I never found a way to include it in the story: Goldenflower and Lionheart's parents are Smallnose and Patchpelt, with Dappletail acting as surrogate for them. Brindleface, Frostfur, and Larktail's parents are Brightnose (Flashnose) and Thymefur (Tawnyspots).
Strange Choices
They hadn't been friends at first. She was inexperienced and picked him solely because he objected to her every move. Everyone was shocked when she made the choice.
“Brightstorm will be the next deputy of SparrowClan.”
“What?!” He snapped.
Right on cue, she purred internally.
“I have made my choice. And I see no objection from StarClan.”
“You're not even the leader yet. Palestar has been buried for almost a quarter-moon and you still won't journey to the Moontree! What, are you afraid StarClan will reject you?” Brightstorm scoffed.
Gasps rang through the clearing. For StarClan to reject a leader was unheard of! That Brightstorm had spoken so insolently was punishable. Several pairs of eyes glared holes into the orange and white tom's fur.
“You dare speak against our great leader!”
“She's not leader yet!” Brightstorm snarled back. “And I think we deserve to know why!”
Cats yowled in protest and the ginger-patched warrior was nearly swallowed by his crowd of angry Clanmates.
“Relax!” Larktail’s voice rolled across the valley, shaking some loose rocks into the camp.
I'll have to send a patrol up there sometime soon. She reminded herself.
“My reasons are my own, Brightstorm. You will be the deputy of SparrowClan, and leader after me. That is final.” She hissed.
“Fine!” He snarled, lashing out at the crowd with (thankfully) sheathed paws. “But don't expect me to bend to your every will.”
Wouldn't dream of it. Larktail snorted.
Insert line break here
“If the truth is told… I'm not ready to be leader. I need someone willing to challenge me. Everyone, even the elders, have been saying 'oh, you'll do fine!’ but that's not what I need to hear… I don't want to mess up, Storm! What if I lead the Clan to ruin?!” She cried out suddenly.
“Then I'll be right there with you, telling you how much of a mouse-brained fool you're being. Like I always have and I always will. I know you don't want to hear it, but you'll do fine.” Brightstorm insisted.
“Storm!” She groaned.
“StarClan hasn't rejected you yet, and they won't today. Go get your nine lives, old girl. We've got work to do.”
