Going into reading The Memory Book, I knew it was going to be sad. I knew it wasn’t going to have a happy ending. The Memory Book is about Sammie McCoy – a high school senior with Neimann-Pick Type C (NPC) – a fatal disease that slowly affects your memory and then your body before it shuts down. So, Sammie is writing this “Memory Book” to future Sammie to help her remember!⠀ .⠀ I loved seeing Sammie’s personality shine through and the support from her family. She doesn’t have a lot of friends at school but she loves being on the debate team. She’s valedictorian! She’s been accepted to NYU! Except NPC gets in the way of her plans… ⠀ .⠀ This is the story about a girl who lives life to the fullest and never gives up. It’s bittersweet but I’m glad I read this book – actually, I listened to it as an #audiobook and loved hearing Sammie’s voice come through, the emotion – the narrator did a fantastic job.
