Sketches for some Illatean animals! These two are are tall-grasslands dwelling creatures
The Dehjaijai (or Deji) is a stout animal which have been domesticated by nomadic peoples to the south or Vrsar (the Tinaini). They can be eaten, or milked, but mostly they are used to carry heavy or bulky supplies when traveling. Wild Dehjaijai have larger ears than domesticated Jaijai, and their tail feathers are thinner, which blend in with the tall grasses they live in, making empty patches from grazing less obvious. They average about 40″ fully grown (1.02 m)
Laork, called Laiohka in Vrsar and Yatisukeh by the Tinaini, are one of the first creatures I designed for Illateu, though they’ve had a few changes over time. They are carnivores with long necks which they use to both reach down tunnels after prey, or to look over tall grass to see or communicate with their pack (via their feathered crests). Packs cover an area, finding many entrances to pwish burrows. They approach quietly and attach with great speed and coordination. The ones depicted here are wild but Laork have also been domesticated with several varieties. Different Laork species vary in height, the ones depicted here are a smaller variety, only 27″ at the shoulder (68 cm)
