Oh, I lol'd at the "of course the one person Brian didn't manage to introduce her to (AKA avoid her giving her name) is Virgil" part. I then unashamedly cackled in front of my family at Logan's instant shutdown of The Great Space Debate, and how she caught the flavor of 'dearest husband' = 'you motherfucker'. LOL.
Also... Auggie figured out *a map/hiking path* inside *Wick-fucking-hills*, where geography is a wink and a shrug as far as maps are concerned. No wonder it took hours and gave her migraines. Damn, girl, that's some mad skillz!
'you give good directions' being so much wilder and more impressive of a skill than she realizes. the one person alive who can give you a clear path through an enchanted forest is a valuable person indeed
I LOVE how spooky the main cast of laoft is when looked at by an outsider. honestly the fact that auggie was still thinking "sex cult" by the time she met virgil is a testament to the fact that she was trying to figure out a HUMAN mastery, when uh... none of this is REMOTLY human lmao
wrestling a glamour constructed by both virgil and his mother is a herculean task even auggie was not fully up to, at least until said mother called her bluff
Do Brian and Harley end up leaving Wickhills for a bit?
not quite, Auggie kinda finesses him into unofficially moving in with her in her cabin in Vinton County by way of big beautiful brown pleading eyes. his address is still his Dads' place but he spends most weekdays at hers and they come to wickhills to hang out on weekends. they move back after they get graduate and get married. its good for him! close enough to still hang out but far enough a way he can sort of de-enmesh emotionally
August chapter 3 the day after my birthday and it wrecked me in the best way. Fuck dude, his house of cards. The most brutal way to have "tis better to have loved and lost than never loved at all" branded into your brain permanently.
I also really loved all of the meta portions and Brian knowing he was doing things technically wrong but also knowing that the story he wants, the story his family wants, and the story AUGGIE wants is that he brings her back and loves her right.
And Brian and Linda... The Grieving Cousins. Being an embodiment of grief and your cousin, who has worn grief as a second skin his entire life.
Also delighted Tina will be a return character and that auggie thinks shes funny I would agree with her (in her position. If I was Brian I think i would dissociate every time I saw her)
soooo true. Auggie's like 'look at it, she's just a sad wet cat who thinks she's a supervillain. it's adorable!'
Brian, white-knuckling while the unblinking black eyes of auggie's corpse stare at him: i have never disagreed with you harder in my life

you managed to create The Character Ever with auggie. she's obsessed. she's a magic PI. she's somehow the most rational person in the room. she's genuinely deranged. she has low-key monster fucker energy in a way i cannot describe but feel in my bone marrow. she's giving the eldritch abomination grandma a migraine with her questions. she's looking into the spooky forest and going 'i could beat you in a fight': she absolutely cannot. she's a c-section baby. she's really out there, doing it all.
thank you i believe in my heart of hearts that there are never enough completely unhinged women in fiction. more specifically, in a dark-romance-thriller way, the woman in the role of 'crazy intense pursuer of uniquely special love interest'
Youre the worst and everything is awful /j
Its so fascinating seeing how Auggies own Gift works, especially with reading a lot of the faerie family members as armed and dangerous, making sense of a nonsensical reality. Also God Yeah The Grove Sure Does Look Like A Cult, Huh. And also this has to be Brian's worst nightmare. Dude his house of cards. Its collapsing. The fact that even as every single one of his family members is saying that Auggie is probably staying, that they're getting to know her, *caring* about her discomfort, he is still trying to keep her away so they dont have to grieve her I cannot wait until just one person finds out why hes doing this
HIS HOUSE OF CARDS!!! my guy is juggling like his life depends on it and auggie is taking potshots at his plates
does Auggie learn to use her truth magic properly now that she's been properly pulled into Wickhills? does someone train her or does she practice by herself?
Her and Brian mostly experiment practice on each other, with occasional interjections from other people with gifts or sight
