#language learning errors

I’m rewatching Shadow and Bone in German and didn’t think to look up the word “heretic” so I would understand it when it came up. I figured I’d just pick it up from the context or something, which didn’t quite pan out. As it turns out, I’m tired enough that I heard “the Black Heretic” as “the Black Cat.” I did figure it out after a minute or so, but only because “cat” takes “die” and “heretic” takes “der.”
