Duke Nukem 3D was another landmark first person shooter building on the previous games in the series by combining it's 2D heritage with a 3D environment that was a step beyond what Doom offered.
3D Realms released an early version of Duke3D dubbed 'LameDuke' which really helps provide an insight into the development of the game.
As can be seen from the video above, LameDuke shows the progression from the previous 2D Duke Nukem game in graphics, sounds and gameplay.
Also the released version of Duke3D ended up being more light hearted than LameDuke (which style is quite gritty)
