“Don’t be silly. I want to stay up with you.”

There was a moment of quiet out of Jesse, reading Angela’s expression after he tried to shoo her away from himself for the second or third time that night.
He’d stepped away from their small group, letting the rest of the mission team sleep for the night- he’d take watch, he’d said. Angela joined him soon after- something which he wasn’t initially going to protest, he enjoyed company, and hers was always pleasant. Quiet, understanding, and knew not to pry on the things that really mattered. They chatted- old memories (Jesse was sure to skirt around the topic of Reyes, and Angela thankfully mirrored it, probably for his sake), as well as what the other had simply been up to since the last of their previous Overwatch days.
But it was getting late, and his insistence wasn’t born so much out of being bothered by the other, simply worried instead. He was used to sleepless nights, of staying up and watching the smoke of his cigar trail up to the moon and stars- he hoped she was not familiar with anything similar. She’d done too much good to deserve that.
“Figured you got all of us to watch out for, you’ll need that sleep, y’know,” Jesse let his eyes finally fall off her face, back forward as he blew out smoke through parted lips, “’m perfectly fine on my own for half a night, Doc.”
He paused again, letting himself give in just a tad, “But I appreciate it.”
