We decided to join a birdwatching tour early in the morning. Our guide took us to his family home first where his wife had prepared a little breakfast. Duly caffeinated, we walked some more to a river. From here, we canoed over to Lake Yojoa. All along the riverside our guide rattled off names of birds faster than I could click on my camera. He was pretty experienced in having ‘conversations’ with the birds. They actually answered back. I couldn’t tell his chirps apart from those of the birds.

The limpkin, a wetlands bird, gets its name for its seeming limp when it walks. It’s also called the ‘crying bird’ because of its loud wail or scream.
