To be fair, itâll be a series of firsts for Royal Meghan in the coming year. This weekend it was her first Trooping as she and Prince Harry made their first public appearance together since returning from honeymoon. We were waiting for this. As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, we were waiting to see about where Meghan would be positioned on the Buckingham Palace balcony â would she occupy a second row position, according to succession, or would the royal family push her up front, the newest shiniest member?
Looks like succession ruled the day with the exception of children. Meghan and Harry stood where Harry always stands during the Trooping the Colour fly past. Thatâs the spot heâs occupied for years and it may be a sign of the tone that the Sussexes will take going forward. Harry wants to set Meghan up for success. He would understand the narratives at play. No one wants to worry about any UK tabloid headlines claiming Meghanâs coming for Princess Kateâs spotlight. So theyâre not giving up that photo.

Iâm always interested in how Lainey covers Harry because Iâm interested in how Celebrity Gossip works and how the industry itself deals with closeting. Â I think there is an argument to be made that even hinting that someone is closeted in the celebrity gossip media is unethical, so we end up with a situation where everyone is straight straight straight until they arenât. Â Everyone knows that there are a lot of people in the entertainment industry who are in the closet, but even acknowledging that closeting is currently happening has to be done in a very general way, otherwise you risk outing someone.
Before Laineyâs site had as high of a profile as it does now, she used to hint CONSTANTLY that leonardo dicaprio was gay. Â CONSTANTLY. Â Now she writes at least two posts a month talking about how gross he is for only dating 24 year-old-models. Â So, yeah, I personally do think Lainey would write the way she does about Harry even if she knew for sure he was gay. Â
I think itâs important to remember that most celebrity gossip isnât investigative journalism in any sense, even when theyâre trying to tell you theyâve got good scoops. Â Like, Lainey is working within the confines of mostly publicly presented information. Â Sheâs not actually invading anyoneâs privacy, sheâs just going along with the party line.

No, itâs a talking point that seems designed to drive wedges between various labor factions in the industry. The writers are keeping you out of work. The actors are why youâre not getting paid. Not us, the people with the actual checkbooks. Them.

I think this is 100% the work of the AMPTP's PR firm, and it's really shitty that Drew Barrymore (and that POS Bill Maher) are out there spouting this rhetoric. It's also wild to me that this is the same talking point Corporate America and dumbass political conservatives trotted out when the pandemic was affecting the bottom line and they doubled down on handwaving COVID and forcing people back to the office.
