Thomas Lanchester, Valentine Munday, Cold Henry, John Childermass and Col Tom Blue for the JS&MN ask meme~
Thomas Lanchester: Funniest scene (book or series)?
Norrell trying to hand Strange a book. It was just such a perfect little character moment XD
Valentine Munday: Favorite quote (book or series)?
“She wore a gown the colour of storms, shadows, and rain and a necklace of broken promises and regrets.”
I love these sorts of descriptions. They call upon the imagination of the reader in a way most other books I have read do not.
Cold Henry: Character you most love to hate?
Henry Lascelles. Although, I have to say, Norrell himself reaches this point quite a few times. But the narrative allows one to feel pity for Norrell, where as Lascelles is always a snarky, sarcastic, elitist twerp.
John Childermass: Favorite scene (book or series)?
“There was a horrible rasping sound as its dried-out lungs filled with air and its limbs shook in a way that was very dreadful to behold. Then one by one the corpses revived and began to speak in a guttural language which contained a much higher proportion of screams than any language known to the onlookers.Even Wellington looked a little pale. Only Strange continued apparently without emotion.‘Dear God!’ cried Fitzroy Somerset, ‘What language is that?“‘I believe it is one of the dialects of Hell,’ said Strange.'It is indeed?’ said Somerset. 'Well, that is remarkable.’'They have learned it very quickly,’ said Lord Wellington, 'They have only been dead three days.’ He approved of people doing things promptly and in a businesslike fashion.”
The horror, the comedy, the blasé way Wellington always speaks, and the lessons Strange learns during this time, make it my favourite.
Col Tom Blue: Walk the King’s Roads or visit Lost-Hope?
Walk the King’s Roads and see where they may lead!
