Hi! Could you signal boost this:: In Other Words feminist bookstore in Portland Oregon (also known as Women and Women First from Portlandia) is on the verge of closing down, they're entirely volunteer ran, and a great feminist space, today is the last day of their Indiegogo campaign and then they're going to decide whether or not they can afford to re-lease or if they'll be closing in February. It's one of very few feminist bookstores left, this place is so important and needs the help. Thanks!
hi, it's sort of related to the kitty discussion. but I was just wondering, would a rapper such as (just thinking of a random example here, but it's more of a broad question opposed to just being about him) Kristoff Krane who is white, or even Eyedea from E&A, but that take/took rapping more seriously/not in a mocking manner (they also sing, play guitar, & some other stuff aside from rapping) still be considered offensive/disrespectful? I totally understand that it isn't your job to educate me,
I would like to start off by saying that I'm not black and therefore def not the authority on this at all however I will try to respectfully offer my opinion. I would very much encourage asking some black sj bloggers about this too!! Also I had no idea who those people were until I looked them up.Â
this picture of Kristoff Krane seems pretty appropriative falling into a similar vein as riff raff but not as bad. From his music it doesn't seem like he's trying to create a "thug image". A lot of my problems with Kitty come from how she likes to appropriate aave (along with other things) by calling herself "a 10/10 shawty" and her use of shawty in general to refer to herself. From what I've gathered this guy is not nearly as icky as eminem but there is still an appropriation factor and its important to remember that he is making his money off of appropriation.Â
Eyedea:
So there is def some "thug" factor to these pics. This guy is dead and I don't really feel comfortable analyzing him I don't want heart broken fans coming into my inbox and telling me how precious he is or something. The one song I listened to "smile" had some like singing verses it's def not rap in the way that we think of rap its more like spoken word/singing. With both of these guys I think the most important thing to think about is are they equally famous as they are talented. Â For instance Macklesnore whose music is a disgrace to rap imo is ridiculously famous but pocs whose music is like 10000x better (like Le1f and Wavy) are not nearly as famous and race is a big factor in why! White people are bored of black rappers, white rappers make them feel more comfortable so they give them more attention that's just not fair! Black people created rap so doesn't it make more sense that they wouldn't have to work harder to become well known?? If a black girl was making rhymes as shitty as kitty's I doubt she would have as much fame as kitty. White privilege means white rappers can get famous easier than black rappers for lesser quality work while appropriating. Anyone with a brain can see that isn't right.
is Sillryn still UFA? :D
to be honest, i don't really know. I had an offer because i posted on the boards, but the user is being confusing. i'll let you know.
