Pairing: Spamton NEO x Gender-Neutral Reader
Fanfic Type: Kinda Horror ?? IDK, it's the chase scene of my dreams, so you decide really.
Running.
Two feet slapping against cracked, pixelated concrete in the darkest corner of Cyber City, the sound echoing like gunshots in the eerie silence. The flickering ads donning the walls did little to illuminate your path, too far past their prime to do more than a few meager pulses of light, but it was better than trying to stumble through the dark.
Still, you pushed on despite your heart pounding in your ears and your breaths coming in quick, frantic gasps. There was no time to stop, not even to slow down and reorient yourself. Silently as you ran, you cursed yourself for ever even stepping foot in cyber city, everything about it was unusual, weird or slightly disturbing…
Especially the thing chasing you.
Something somewhat resembling a man, somewhat resembling a machine, and chalk full of animalistic instincts that gave it only one goal; catch. You could still hear it behind you; massive talons scraping harshly against the floors and walls that it was constantly crashing into, the momentum of it’s legs too fast for it’s wobbly balance to keep up with. Massive, mechanical wings flexed, the sound like nails on a chalkboard.
You seriously doubted the thing could actually fly, but would rather not find out by slowing down; it’d be like waving a rare steak in front of a starved lion.
No, you ran, working your burning lungs and aching legs as fast as possible, no matter how much your muscles screamed for a break. If it wouldn’t slow down, then neither would you. sweat coating you like a second skin at this point, you vowed if you survived this, you’d peel off your damp clothes and take the most luxurious bath money could buy. But the thought fled your mind as a massive hand slammed down, cracking the digital pavement below it. It was damn near the size of a car, and the talons scraped against the ground as it lifted again. Close, far too close… it-no…. HE was getting bolder.
And you swore up and down that between the hiss of the steam that left his mouth and the violent creaks of his lurching frame, a guttural, glitchy kind of laughter rang through the air. Whatever he was, he was mighty amused by this chase… and he seemed hyper aware that you only had so much energy left.
So, in a last ditch effort, as you rounded a sharp corner on unsteady, shaking legs, you dove behind a dumpster, huddling in close to the wall and slapping a hand over your mouth to muffle your breathless gasps. Even as your lungs burned, you fell silent as the sounds of screeching metal joints, stomping feet and faint cackles came… and then went.
He passed you.
You didn’t dare move a muscle, body straining as you forced yourself still, stiff and quiet, sweat trickling down your forehead. The sounds had faded… leaving only the quiet buzz of faded advertisements, the occasional squeak of a maus as they returned from their hidey holes, and dark.
No glow of neon green wires that ensnared the beast. No twin spotlights of vibrant pink and sunny yellow beaming down on you. No chatter of an unhinged jaw full of jagged teeth.
Nothing but the dark and quiet of the night.
Several minutes passed before you even considered moving, knees curled to your chest as your heart slowly, but surely began to settle. Then, with the caution and care of a surgeon… you unfolded one leg, then the other, slowly sliding from your tight, and unpleasantly pungent hiding place.
Even as you stood, head snapping this way and that.. the alley remained quiet, almost peaceful as the computer mice snuffled through the garbage in search of something to eat…. Surely if he was lurking, they wouldn’t be so calm ? So, slowly, keeping your footsteps light, you began to walk the opposite way he’d gone, trying not to linger on the faint outlines of claw marks and footprints now permanently cracked into the pavement, looking extra frightening in the dim lighting.
When the flicker of the street lamp came into view, where the chase had first began, a small glimmer of hope entered your heart, feet carrying you a bit faster. Sure, you were sore and would definitely feel all this in the morning, but it was all worth it, you were-
FWOOM.
Two spotlights hit you, the colors of pink and yellow locked onto your suddenly frozen frame… and a low, grating laugh shivered through the air.
“ F0UND YOU, [LIGHTE NNER]. “
