I observe TV/media for fun to find a connection between the way it influences society and how society shapes the entertainment we consume. With that being said, I was introduced to this show by co-workers because I am a fan of mysteries and darker shows. Though I am not the biggest fan, I do keep track of the plot and I've seen the uproar on social media regarding the treatment of certain characters. It was a shock to see that people feel so strongly about what has taken place, but I do applaud the fans for voicing your opinions. This review (link below) by Abbey White pretty much sums it up. The message of the show is problematic in addition to the diminished role of one of the leads. I am not going to tackle every issue I have with the show but here is what I noticed:

  1. The Hashtags:  A reminder that Jo is supposed to have your sympathy while the low frequency of Lacey hashtags  implies that you are not supposed to feel sorry for her. ( Make your own conclusions...)  

2. Lacey's lack of family support:  Her family is never shown; there is no reaction from her mother regarding the challenging current events in her life. Her father had essentially alienated himself from his ex-wife and children to protect his secret which was disclosed by Jo. Lacey has yet to have a reaction to this on screen, but what is worse is that someone was outed before they were ready to make that decision.  

3.  The video tape: Not much to say here. Violation of a private moment always trumps embarrassment just because someone doesn't return your romantic feelings. (But this is not the case in the "Twisted" universe)

4. The introduction of Whitney:  While Lacey is in great need of a true friend, the kiss is just shock value. It is also is a device to neutralize the fans of her relationship with the male lead. I think the writers miscalculated the size of Lacey's fanbase. WOC are generally written as sidekicks in teen shows. She cannot be the love interest despite the fact she represents several characteristics of the teen female ideal. (Even though she has a lot going for her, she is supposed to be alone or in this case possibly not even interested in boys anymore.  (Everyone jokes about Lisa Turtle never having a boyfriend while watching old Saved by The Bell Episodes, just one example)     

5. The actual mystery: Why was Tara killed? What did she know? What was so illegal regarding the business, Marna Inc?

Nothing that special tonight about Twisted.  I wasn't screaming from suspense or anything.  But it was nice to see Danny back at Green Grove High.

Sarita made her guest appearance - a very snooty guest appearance I should say.  I hope they keep her on the show; her remarks are really funny to laugh at.  But they'll probably get rid of her because let's not forget: everything needs to revolve around Jo.

A couple things I'm feeling kind of ugly about:

 - Andie and Rico's relationship.  It's really awkward, and I thought it was funnier when he was chasing after Jo.

 - Charlie and Jo's relationship.  Also very awkward, and Charlie just sounds like bad news.

Some big questions:

Why was Tess helping Vikram?  What made her feel so close to Vikram and not to Kyle, the chief of police?

Will Jo give in and tell the police about Vikram's murder?  The cat's out of the bag!

Feels great to be back on Tumblr!  I was debating for the longest time whether or not to continue watching Twisted, but I've decided to come back!

Almost all the loose ends from last season were tied together.  Here are some things we've learned from the last two episodes:

-Vikram is alive

-Vikram forced Danny to take the blame for his Aunt Tara's murder
