Watching Episode 5 of Escaflowne
Zaibach’s goal is to unify Gaia under the Zaibach empire, but if the dragon keeps messing it up (as the dragon is “destined” to do), I can see that being interpreted as a threat to Zaibach’s future.
Agreed, I just think he’s avoiding telling everyone at what cost that unification is coming to.
Zaibach’s story in the series is very Oedipus (story theme not the complex), the very thing they try to destroy because it’s “destined” to stop them, is what stops them thanks to the fact that it was dragged out of it’s rock in the first place.
If they’d have left the Escaflowne to remain in Fanelia, and went straight for Freid I don’t think word would have gotten to Fanelia for Van to act as a fighting factor in the war (not to mention that I think Mahad would be gone by then and no offense to Chid, but that would have been opportune time to attack via stealth cloaks without a psychic there to out them). Hitomi wouldn't have ended up in Zaibach to stop Folken from killing Dornkirk because hopefully by then they’d have figured out that she just had to wish hard enough to go home. Folken would have actually still been his ally as they wouldn't have needed Naria and Eriya to drive home Dornkirk’s madness to Folken. The Dragonslayers wouldn't have died as Zaibach was able to decimate Freid even with the Escaflowne and Scherezade on their side. I mean, good on Zaibach for driving a helluva story of action, romance and intrigue. But lets learn from history, dont try to destroy the thing predicted to destroy you before it happens, just leave it the hell alone.
