Anker's sub-brand Eufy has recently caused a stir with its range of affordable Robovacs. The last two models have been excellent, but the company wants to improve things with its latest model, the Eufy RoboVac L70 Hybrid. This is an ambitious undertaking that should increase the company's credibility and make it a serious player in space because it can wipe floors. Given the added versatility, it just has to prove that it is smart to use swipes to give its contemporaries something to worry about.

A strong, conventional design

What made the two previous Eufy robots we tested, RoboVac 11S Max and 15C Max, so remarkable was that they had flat designs that allowed them to enter tight spaces. This is no longer the case here, as the RoboVac L70 Hybrid, due to its increased height of 105 millimeters, does not get under sofas to clean places that are not as accessible.

Gone is the modern tempered glass design that made Anker's previous robot vacuum cleaner more affordable. Instead, the 11S Max uses a more conventional design with a white all-plastic construction. With an improved laser mapping system, the RoboVac L70 Hybrid is far cleaner to clean than its predecessors.

This is the first time that Anker has introduced laser navigation to its Robovac range, and the RoboVac L70 Hybrid offers the best cleaning routine the range has seen. The device cleans more efficiently than previous models and uses a methodical S-shaped cleaning pattern instead of bumping into walls and adjusting course each time. In open spaces, it follows this pattern to ensure that every inch of your floor is vacuumed.

The extended navigation does not stop here either, because you can set virtual limits using the associated mobile app. We found it particularly useful for areas where the vacuum should not touch, e.g. B. Pet areas with water bowls or messy areas in general. Adding these exclusion zones makes the RoboVac L70 more efficient for cleaning. However, it is still occasionally blocked if it accidentally grips wires or other objects, so some monitoring is still required. Docking was not a big problem here. Often, a maximum of two passes were required to establish a proper connection. However, I would strongly recommend attaching the waterproof pad to the charging station so that it stays in place better.

With the EufyHome app, available for Android and iOS, you can view the cleaning history of the L70, set schedules, manage it manually and update the firmware. Similar to the RoboVac 15C Max, the L70 also has Wi-Fi connectivity so you can use virtual assistants like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

Don't worry about vacuuming

Although the RoboVac L70 Hybrid has only a single front brush, it offers excellent cleaning performance. In fact, at 2200 Pa, it has the strongest suction power in Eufy's line-up so far. It also helps if the bottom roller brush rotates to direct dirt, pet hair and crumbs into the container. The sensors around the device also allow him to hug walls tightly and turn corners effortlessly, which aids performance. In contrast to previous RoboVacs, the collecting container is accessible via the upper lid, which must be removed next to the washable filter in order to completely empty the container. This time, additional steps are required so that the cleanup is not as quick.

Just wipe with water

New to the Eufy fold is wiping, a function that adds depth to an otherwise predictable robot vacuum. The mop is attached to the back of the RoboVac L70 and uses a removable microfiber cloth.
