Chapter 4

With great acquaintances, Alec learns, comes a great power to take big decisions.

Side effects, however, may include nicknames that last a lifetime.

"You're lying, aren't you?"

"I'm not," Alec said indignantly.

"Sure you aren't." Magnus plucked Alec’s pen out of his hand, tossing it over his shoulder into the grass beyond.

"Magnus!" Alec chided, looking in the direction of his now lost pen. "What-"

Magnus grinned wickedly and snatched his books, shooting out of his seat. 

"Magnus!" Alec got to his feet, reaching out to grab his books, but Magnus would simply laugh and hold them away from him, switching hands when Alec’s hands nearly brushed against the books. Alec reached out as far as he could past Magnus, when he suddenly realised how close they were and dropped his hand.

"Tell me the truth," Magnus said, his smile softening a little. "And I'll give your books back to you."
