Not long ago, I met someone, who I now consider a vauable friend, during the induction day of new greenpeace volunteers.
This past weekend we got talking about the 'plague' (artificial intelligence) but in a different light.I relayed to her what we had a learned at youth month --an earlier post-- and the hottest debate was how humans can use the assistance of AI to be at the frontline of environmental issues.That got us talking. See, I am with most environmentalists out there...artificial intelligence is terrible for the environment. (It substantially increases water insecurity).
However, I have to agree that AI may help us beat all this environmental issues, if used as an assistant, ethically.
Don't misinterpret me, I am not saying that it is our savior but it may help boost solutions we already have. For example, PredictiveAI. This involves using statistical analysis and machine learning (ML) to identify patterns, anticipate behaviors and forecast upcoming events.
We can predict what will happen if we cut back on plastic production.
We can predict the healing of the planet.
Of course, this will only be possible with the correct and reliable data and statistics.That way, we can start to properly advice the human race on the specifics. Because the environment affects every aspect of life ,something that most do not understand.
In spite of that , we should first figure out how to curb the issues AI is causing. Some awesome suggestion made was developing technologies that cool down machines instead of water(e.g nitrogen) and, obviously, educating the masses on this new development :).
I am speaking as an absolute beginner on this topic, so this might seem like commonsense to some. Also, we all interpret things differently. This is however my take on this lovely convo between two environmental enthusiats, who would do anything to cook ( -_•) solutions that will not be just written but implemented.
I may want to become an environmental data analyst at this point, who knows? The topic is intriguing.
This is still an ongoing argumentation between my friend and I, and I will update this post time and time again.
