Cigarettes and Black Coffee

Hux.

Hux stands at the windowsill, eyes fixed on the rain that’s pouring down outside. He hates planetary leave. He hates the smell, the tastes, the feeling. He hates weather and sunshine and unfiltered air. He hates waking up and not heading to the bridge. Not sealing up his uniform to take on the world. Not being able to eat at the same time each night. Having to eat strange foods from on planet.

“Hux?” Kylo walks up behind him, footsteps light in the predawn quiet. Hux turns, about to snap at him for the interruption. But before he can say anything, Kylo is pressing a warm mug into his hands, steam curling up to him. And then he’s passing a lit cigarette to Hux, smoke mingling with the steam.

And as Kylo wraps his arms tight, plasters himself against Hux’s back as Hux turns to look out the window again, Hux thinks to himself. Not everything about shore leave is bad.
