Rhythm Game Song of the Week - Smiley - Utopia

New year, new Rhythm Game Song of the Week! To celebrate the recently announced “StepManiaX”, this week will be about a song from Kyle Ward’s most well known project.

Utopia made its debut in the first In The Groove, a DDR clone that was made in the gap between DDR Extreme and DDR SuperNOVA. Kyle Ward was in charge of making the original songs, using his aliases. His Smiley alias was used for Happy Hardcore songs, often using piano rhythms. This song is certainly no exception.

The most noteworthy part of the song is its Expert chart, seen in the video. There are a few sections where the chart has one pattern on one arrow, and another pattern on the other. While the left arrow is clearly going to the bass drum, the right arrow is supposedly going to “background instrumentals“ that apparently only the chart’s writer, Chris Foy, can hear. It wasn’t a very liked chart, needless to say.

This song was crossed over into Pump It Up thanks to Pump It Up Pro, a spinoff of Pump It Up and spiritual successor to In The Groove. It gained a music video with a “Not Energizer Bunny” and a “Definitely Not One Of Those Box Guys From ReBoot”, and lost the infamous arrow mashing part. It was eventually crossed over to the main series in Fiesta 2.

Έτσι λοιπόν ύστερα από 3 χρόνια το Underwrold επιστρέφει… πιο αιματηρό από ποτέ. Holland Series 2016: Pirates grabs last straw

In what was a nail biter and a very, very close game Pirates managed to clinch the win. Max Clarijs, with a batting average of .188, came through at the moment when you least expected it and hit a walk off bases loaded single. Despite the win, Pirates still trails by a game, but the club still has a chance to win it all.

Hitman: Agente 47 (2015)

Si sabés un poco de cine y de videojuegos, seguramente sabes que las adaptaciones del uno al otro siempre dejan mucho que desear. Tomemos como ejemplo las peliculas de Silent Hill o el juego de Fight Club. Entonces no hay muchas razones para creer que Hitman va a ser de alguna forma revolucionaria, pero mas allá de ser o no una adaptación fiable, ésta fue un fracaso por no cumplir con su  único objetivo: entretener de forma creíble.

Mirá esta pelicula si buscás:

Si bien no voy a hacer hincapié en malos personajes o inconsistencias (aunque se podría hablar de ellos) lo primero a destacar en Hitman es un guión de mierda, uno que compila todos los clichés del cine de acción que te puedas imaginar. ¿Cómo se puede hablar bien de una pelicula que da la sensación de haberla visto mil veces antes? ¿cómo pilotearla cuando muchos diálogos parecen sacados de algo que bien podrían estar pasando ahora mismo en la tele?

Hay partes que zafan, porque visualmente tiene algunas cosas buenas: algunos movimientos de cámara que quedaron bien, planos generales de paisajes impresionantes, y cosas así, pero en general, las ascenas de acción se sienten tan artificiales que dejan de ser disfrutables. En más de una escena se nota un abuso tal del CGI que ya no sabés si estás viendo gente o peersonajes de la play 4. Si a Hitman se la sigue recordando dentro de, digamos, 10 años, será sólo para tomarla como ejemplo como una de esas peliculas que quedó en una época en la que dicha tecnología todavía no estaba lo suficientemente perfeccionada, o bien, de la que algunos confiaban demasiado en vez de darle el uso respetable que otros sí supieron aprovechar.
