CZECH KROJE Kyjov, Moravian Slovakia
Arguably one of the most widely recognized Czech kroje, Kyjov’s kroj features a full red pleated skirt under a black apron, which is richly decorated with colorful embroidery and trimmed with lace. The loose/puffed sleeves are embroidered with black designs. The kroj is then completed with black boots, scarlet headscarf, red vest, and an embroidered neck scarf.
The popularity of this kroj can be attributed in part to Kyjov’s reputation as a folklore hub in Czechia. It has been seen at international events representing the Czech Republic as the national dress, and has occasionally been adopted as a default kroj among Americans celebrating their Czech ancestry.
