I LOVE that DK is one the mood makers of Seventeen. He makes me laugh so much. But there’s a reason he’s the leader of BSS. And I’m pretty sure it’s not just because Hoshi didn’t want to be leader again. I believe it’s because Seokmin is a deeply compassionate person, who’s empathetic and optimistic. He’s strong willed, we know that from how much courage it must’ve taken to be the lead role of a musical when he’s stated multiple times that he’s not confidant in his acting skills. 

In general, DK seems to be a highly emotional person, and he shows it, but not to the extent that he wears every emotion on his sleeve like Seungkwan does, and he’s not always as bold as Hoshi can be. 

I could be projecting - we’re both INFP’s and so I feel a bit of familiarity with him - but Seokmin has had to adjust a lot with the constraints of being an idol. His role in the group is the mood maker, and he falls into that naturally, but we’ve seen him struggle with his emotional expression. When his smile falters from something someone said, when he overacts to entertain others at the expense of himself, when he struggles to hold the line between Seokmin and DK because of how frustrated, scared, or exhausted he is. Times like these can easily lead to outbursts of emotional that can be scary for those involved including himself, dangers even. I can only imagine the situations that we haven't heard about or seen. 

I don't mean to say that DK is entirely a persona just for the camera, because it’s clear that, with all of them, their personal selves bleed into their idol selves a lot by design. DK and Seokmin are two sides of the same coin. But I can sense that he struggled with how to express who Seokmin is, and that he worries about how he’s perceived. Maybe more than the others. He’s so proud that he’s a big part of the joy of Seventeen, but he can’t be joyful and cheery all the time, and I think he has had conflicts with himself about that. 

Seokmin gets angry, and not just in the funny irritated way. Seokmin gets sad and not just in the cute pouty way. Seokmin gets excited and not just in the funny DK way. 

I spent over 5 years in DBT therapy to figure out how to express myself in a healthy way, and how our emotions are a huge part of what forms our self image, and how that self imagine differs and corelates to what others perceive us as. I’ve seen DK use techniques and language that I learned there, and I don't know if he’s had similar sessions, and that doesn't exactly matter. Even from as recent as last year, I've seen changes in him that I took years to take, and I’m so proud of him for how he’s matured and developed as an idol and as a person.

first time i heard of them i’m a huge fan of almost all of sm’s artists, so i knew about them really early on when they were still sr14b or boys’ heaven. i remember being totallyyyy in love with bass bot.

when i became a fan since bass bot i guess HAHA but of official nct releases, definitely since 7th sense. i remember thinking it was such a weird song, but then after another listen i was like OH HELL YEA.

favorite (and least favorite) title track ALL OF THEM.. maybe cherry bomb..? i will jam out to cherry bomb any time ANY DAY BAYBEE. least favorite easily goes to punch. i’ve given it a few listens and i just can’t get into it unfortunately.

favorite (and least favorite) mv favorite is either cherry bomb (strong concept, animations are FUN) or the 7th sense (everyone say THANK YOU VM PROJECT ARCHITECTURE). least fave.. maybe chain? i just barely remember it.

a concept i wished they’d try* SOMETHING LIKE TEN’S DREAM IN A DREAM OR VIXX’S SHANGRI-LA, BUT AS A WHOLE GROUP. or something really bombastic and tongue in cheek like any of block b’s stuff.

what i like most about them* some silly, really endearing kids with a freaking FANTASTIC discography. doyoung and mark doing anything (especially with johnny, despite me having some deep seated desire to punch him) sparks so much joy

first time i heard of them my brother told me about them!

when i became a fan my brother showed me the “congratulations” mv when it first came out and i nearly lost my mind bc i LOVE bands hahaha

favorite (and least favorite) title track THEY’RE LITERALLY ALL MY FAVES... i usually say “letting go” is my fave bc of sentimental reasons. least fave, if i had to choose, is probably “shoot me” bc i just don’t repeat it as much as the others. still luv it tho.
