Does KYBGAU Yelena get whiny when she's sick or does Kate have to step in sometimes like "babe, you tazed a cardboard cutout of Justin Timberlake because it said 'what you looking at.' You need soup and bedrest."
Yelena refuses to get whiny. Itâs not in her DNA. Sheâs the type to have a 103-degree fever and still insist it's not big deal. Still try to unload the dishwasher while sweating through her hoodie. Say things like âI just need five minutesâ while clearly on the verge of collapse.
Kate, meanwhile, has had it with that brand of stoicism. She doesnât even argue anymore. She just confiscates her phone, wraps her in blankets, puts a cold compress on her head, and bosses her around.
âYouâre benched, babe. Doctorâs orders. And by doctor, I mean me.â
Yelena tries to protest. Kate shoves a thermometer in her mouth to shut her up.
The kids learn early: when Mamaâs sick, itâs a battle of wills. Mila starts copying Kate and scolding Yelena like a tiny nurse. Ellie brings her a juice box and tells her to âstop being a dummy.â Natasha just climbs onto her and falls asleep because Yelena is, no matter how ill, always and forever her preferred mattress.
âThis is what you get for acting like youâre not dying.â
Every time, Yelena groans back: âI wasnât dying. I'm fine.â
When they were married the first time, Yelena once got the flu so bad she couldnât get out of bed for three days. Kate canceled three meetings, two interviews, and a dinner with someone she hated missing just to sit beside her and force-feed her soup.
Yelena finally admits: âYouâre a better nurse than I expected.â
âIâm not a nurse. Iâm your wife. And I hate watching you suffer.â
"So can I have my phone back.â
âNo.âAnd Kate tucks her in tighter.
