A memory long forgotten was proof of this. She couldn’t recall what happened or when that was, it must’ve been erased from her mind with the use of the Arayashiki, but that memory taught her a very important lesson. If she wanted out, she couldn’t get attached to anything or anyone lest everything fell apart and was imprisoned forever more within the House of Spiders.

Your existence — your attempts at befriending Ryoshu the few times you visited her prison — was something she was both prepared and unprepared for.

She doesn’t pay you any heed, in fact she avoids situations when she’d have to speak with you. Fortunately your rare visits meant that avoiding you was was easy all things considered because you weren’t even there to bother her. But all those times that you weren’t there with her made her feel… sad. Upset, even.

As much as she wanted to deny it, your presence was the one thing that brought her comfort in her loneliness. Your rather pathetic attempts at friendship was what made her almost smile. As much as she hated to admit it, she looked forward to seeing you whenever she heard you were coming to visit her and the apprentices.

Somewhere along the process of Ryoshu dodging your attempts at friendship and your annoying persistance at befriending her anyway, Ryoshu had grown to like you and it’s her worst fear.

If she hesitates for a moment longer then your string will eventually become so intertwined with hers that she’ll be unable to escape her prison.

So she does the only thing she knows how to and unsheathes Arayashiki, her target being the very nursefathers that raised her.

Her memories would be deleted as a result. The string connecting you and her would undoubtedly severed. Though maybe, after all this if you were still willing to befriend her, the new Ryoshu born after the current one who sacrificed all her memories in exchange for revenge could finally become your friend.

Though Ryoshu doubted that she’d ever truly be free enough for a fate as kind as that. She’d have to get rid of every memory of you, too, so at least one of you could be free.
