“The dog doesn’t have a choice. When you take home a dog, you think you’ve picked a dog but in fact you’ve picked a life for the dog. The dog has no choice and no say whatsoever - will it have walks on the beach or be stuck on a chain in the courtyard? Meaty bones or dried food? Will it be able to fuck other dogs? Naps on the porch or will it live by fighting other dogs?
The dog squats to take a shit and thinks he’s made a choice.
The question is: is it really any different for the dog’s honor... for us? Do we really make our own choices or have they all been made for us by the time we are born? Set aside for us by a country, society, belief system, religion, social class, family, a clan, a strand of DNA - you’re born to the laws, the rules, the ethical moral codes of our time. Is any of it really a choice and can we ever escape the life we are born into?”
