hi! apologies if this is out of the blue, but i've recently joined the cherik fandom and was curious how much of the more common tropes of charles' family/backstory are canon vs fanon, since i have little to no knowledge from the comics. as in, was charles' mother actually neglectful? likewise for cain/kurt being abusive?

Here's a quick snapshot of what's canon vs. fanon re: the Xavier/Markos:
Canon
- Both Brian Xavier and Cain Marko were part of a govt. project in New Mexico called 'Black Womb' created to research genetics and mutations. Brian allowed Charles to be experimented on by Nathan Milbury (Mr. Sinister) though the wikis are a bit vague as to whether he (or Kurt) performed experiments on Charles himself.
- Kurt married Sharon Xavier to get his hands on the Xavier fortune.
- Sharon married Kurt because she thought he needed a father to take care of him.
- Kurt was physically abusive to his son Cain, and later his wife.
- Kurt was also neglectful of Sharon, causing her to turn to alcohol/become an alcoholic.
- Kurt actually preferred Charles to his own son and by all indications did not abuse him directly.
- Cain bullied Charles when they were children.
- Charles attempted to alleviate Sharon's pain by sharing it through his telepathy; she eventually died from her alcoholism and 'a broken heart'.
- Kurt died from his wounds after saving both Cain and Charles from a lab fire.
Fanon
- Brian never lived with his family in Westchester; Sharon moved the family there only after his death.
- Brian experimenting on young Charles (maybe??? see above)
- Kurt experimenting on young Charles (same as Brian above i.e. unsure, though probably not after he married Sharon)
- Kurt physically/sexually abusing Charles
- Sharon alienating/emotionally distancing herself from/afraid of Charles' powers
