I remember the kufiyyah being "popular" five/six years ago, and today there are still some people who wear it as a fashion statement (like this), but it's also never white. In here it's mostly used by antifa, pro-Palestine activists and marxists/anarchists/socialists.It's a widely known symbol of Palestinian solidarity anyway, so usually people don't really dig much into it.

I've seen muslims wearing it but not like non-muslim/westerners do. Women usually put it on the shoulders like a shawl or can wear it like a hijab à la Layla Khaled, and usually men wear it like a normal scarf.

People ignoring the fact that wearing a black and white (or red and white, but the black-white one is more recognised) kufiyyah means making a political statement (and a risky one considering where was it made and by whom) are just really thick and not really people I want to engage with.
