Farm Policy Update
More farm policy info!  I realize, this makes you happier than a dog with three balls.  Know that I too share this unbridled enthusiasm when it comes to the 2014 Farm Bill.  That being said, it’s still important.  Let the fun begin.
Art Barnaby with K-State is my go to for farm policy. Â The updated Farm Policy article is here.
The bottom line?
For PLC to trigger on wheat in 2014-15, prices will need to drop to $2.70 and stay there for the next 3 months to receive any payment.
Prices for soybeans will need to get to $4.20 and stay there for the next 6 months to trigger a PLC payment.
Corn is a little trickier. Â A price of $3.75 for the next 6 months would generate a PLC payment of about $0.01. Â For PLC to outperform counties who will trigger a maximum ARC-CO payment, prices will need to hover around $2.80.
Piece of cake, right? Â (Except for the part where your reference yields and county yields impact payments and make no two farms unique. Â That part makes people drink. Â Early. Â In the morning.)
*Disclaimer: If you follow advice (I’m not giving advice, just information) and want to be mad at me, blame Art Barnaby.
**Other Disclaimer: I’m really unsure if the dog with three balls joke is inappropriate.  I’ve come to the conclusion that it just depends on what kind of balls we’re talking about.  If you’re offended, I’m referring to 3 tennis balls.
