A loving touch
A/N: This idea just smacked me in the face, while I started a current WIP. Hoping to finish that one soon. I don't claim to know how massages work, so there's probably inaccuracies.
Summary: Sarah studies a useful way to help her beloved relax. Sarah x Krolock as usual on this blog. Herbert makes an appearance, because nobody can convince me that he and Sarah aren't besties.
Herbert couldn't help but peer over Sarah's shoulder, curious to know what book had her so invested these past few nights. When he realized what it was, he grinned.
"Ooh, that one will come in handy!" He stated.
Fewer fics where Sarah stays with Krolock at the castle, more fics where she drags that old man out of the castle and forces him to experience whimsy and wonder
Sarah/Krolock
Send me a ship and I'll give you my (brutally) honest opinion on it
Love, love, love it, though I am not super fond of fandom trying to squeeze it into a more archetypal shape when the fun of it is that it breaks the archetypes. Sarah/Krolock or Krolah or whatever one prefers to call it answers the age old "I can fix him vs I can make him worse vs whatever is wrong with him is much funnier" debate for villain romances with the much-underused "I can be so much worse than him" with a dash of "yes, dear", and I think that's beautiful. They're dysfunctional in the start, but the power dynamic shifts are what's key in my enjoyment of the ship; I do believe Von Krolock has genuine feelings for Sarah while being so hopeless in his own self-aware evil that he (feels! he totally could do something else but he sucks lmao!) has no way of truly expressing this except monstrously. Meanwhile, Sarah, selfish enough as a human to suit the vampire world but still promised a fairy tale she wasn't quite delivered and subsequently (pretty harshly!) disillusioned, comes out the other side sharper and as if not more brutal and ruthless, without Krolock's self-reproach and qualms weighing her down, clawing her way to the top of the hierarchy in the post-Vampocalypse world (if that tiara in the Austrian finale is any indication).
Krolock does terrible things because he feels he is incapable of even trying to be better so why even bother (and given how the musical portrays vampire instincts as animalistic/uber-Darwinist, there may be some merit to this); Sarah, especially as a vampire, does terrible things in pursuit of getting whatever she wants. My feelings on the ship are best summed up by Sarah's fantasy ballet of her dipping Krolock into the kiss, and that one boot of the ball sequence where Krolock is breaking into miserably bitter laughter during the Totale Finsternis reprise. It's ripe for angst, for fun, and for somehow being two people screwy enough to balance one another out.
Essentially, they have the makings of a power couple, and here's a meme I made that, while goofy, does sum up why their differing perspectives are fun:
Graf von Krolock wearing his black ring:
and here we have Sarah, wearing the exact same ring in the Bal Vampirov Finale (whereas he is not wearing it any longer):

Кромешная Тьма (Totale Finsternis) | Бал Вампиров
I will forever send you Drewlock asks. I have noticed I am not the only one sending them to you. So, here it goes: How to win Drewlocks dead heart? His undying love? And if won this, how does he let you know he loves you?
(At it again with the corny questions forgive my simping ass hahaha)
Please never stop! And this is really making want to go back to writing Tanz fics, or just fics overall but okay. And if you want to stay on anon but want me to know when it's you again you can also sign off with a little emoji or nickname or I'll just have to call you Drewlock-Simp and assume you're the same self-proclaimed simp as the other ask.
Forgive my melodrama here, I thought it would be funny to write it like this:
A Gentleman's Guide to Winning the Heart of Drewlock (Though This Is Not Solely Applicable to Gentlemen):
Be yourself. It sounds cheesy, but what I mean is do not try to put on an act, do not try to deceive Drewlock. Don't try to act like someone you aren't, he'll sense it and forever be suspicious of you.
Don't be a leech. He's surrounded by other vampires who either grovel (honestly or dishonestly) at his feet, or try to manipulate him or seduce him for their own gain. He'd be charmed by your honesty and openess.
Don't be afraid of him. Oh by all means you can be nervous, but don't let him believe that you think he's truly a monster. Be gentle with him, touch him as he's incredibly touch starved, listen to him and talk with him.
Be strong willed. You can be nervous and shy, but don't be afraid to show a difference of opinion, don't be afraid to stand up to him. He won't be used to it, but he won't be angered by it.
Get Herbert on your side. And all you really need to do to get him on your side is for him to see your affections are genuine and he'll be all too happy to be your wing-man.
I want to say a lot of this is inspired by this fic https://archiveofourown.org/works/24794089 , which I cannot praise enough and it feels like the author read my mind with how they portray Krolock's feelings about Sarah and Sarah's attitude (and feel free to imagine yourself in Sarah's shoes). And the fic isn't just about Krolock, it's specifically about Drewlock!! It foes from pre-musical events until post-Tanzsaal. And there's another fic that goes along that is Sarah's POV for the post-Tanzsaal scene https://archiveofourown.org/works/24793789
This idea they see each other for the first time because she just walks up to the castle to gaze at it, locks eyes with him and just smiles and walks away. And he's just panicking like wait why wasn't she scared, why did she smile, why did she look cute when she smiled?!? While Herbert's just laughing in the background.
If you're not already enticed let me paste a little of the fic here (and please if the author has issue with this I'll remove it):
"Father, there’s a girl staring.”
Herbert’s voice was curious, distant. If it weren’t for the abnormality of the statement, his father might not have paid attention at all.
“What?”
“A girl. She’s standing outside of the castle. Staring.”
He didn’t imagine it as he heard Herbert gasp at his side. There was no doubt the girl saw him even if he must have been nothing but a vague figure from a distance. She must have known who he was, if not from her father than from the other villagers, and yet she didn’t look surprised nor scared. With her face turned to the castle, cheeks deliciously flushed, a daring glint sparkled in her green eyes and that same puzzling smile graced her lips. He would have felt hunger, the mere presence of fresh, young blood intoxicating and calling if it weren’t for the overwhelming sense of shock freezing him in his tracks. This stupid, reckless girl stared in the eyes of a vampire, kept coming to his abode completely unruffled but seemed perfectly aware of her actions.
He didn’t want to break the gaze, as childish as he felt staring back at a child at his gates. Herbert huffed out a laugh and said something his father didn’t catch. The girl blinked a couple of times, played with her hair absently, and wrapped herself tighter in her coat before turning on her heel and simply walking away. Only this time Krolock had no other option but to follow.
