Back to cereal this week with new Krave Cookies and Cream flavour.

Initial impressions: the last time I had Krave it was in 2021 when they released their cookie dough flavour. As with most of my Krave experiences, it wasn’t memorable enough for me to form any strong opinion. Krave is one of those rare cereals that I just can’t seem to find enthusiasm for, but hopefully this second type of cookie related sub-flavouring will be the one to convert me.

Post bowl thoughts: when eating something that is so clearly oreo inspired, I go in with a high expectation. Especially as Post have taken up the Oreo mantel and constructed one of the best O shaped cereals of all time. This Krave Cookies and Cream instead offers a mixed bowl, one with clear highs and lows, to form what I would consider to be a better than average, but not exceptional, cereal.

I ate these as a late night snack, which upon reflection is when I suspect they most shine. Hunched over the bowl with sleepy eyes, just absolutely shovelling them in with my new, and importantly, bigger, spoon. Although the outside shell and inside paste alone don’t stand out, they come together as a united front that gives you an unmistakably Oreo hit.

Interestingly, the moment these parcels of white paste hit milk the texture split into three. The outside immediately succumbs to a slight sog, with the middle of the shell maintaining its original crisp and the paste on the inside glueing it all together, giving the spoon a very toothsome quality that is incredibly satisfying. This textural combination is truely a form of art, and that form of art lasts for maybe a minute until the outside of the parcels turn slimy and the soggening overtakes all previous delight. Luckily, I was garfeilding these into my mouth, so this didn’t prove a huge issue for me, but I wouldn’t have wanted to dwell over this bowl for longer than a few minutes.

The follow up milk was unchanged and, unlike a lot of other cereals, I would recommend sticking to eating these dry as it maintains the taste without exposing you to the unfortunate slimesog of milk soaking.
