Sometime in the wee hours of the morning, Dean wakes up enough to be aware of Casā strong arms around him and Casā nose tucked into the back of his neck. He snuggles up against Casā chest, and Cas whispers, āI love youā into Deanās hair. Dean stiffens, then relaxes as Cas nuzzles him. He goes back to sleep, feeling safe for the first time since Mary Winchester died. He thinks a little more about that feeling, pokes at, stretches it, rolls it around in his mind. He feelsā¦warm? Sure, Cas is a blast furnace at his back. He feelsā¦secure? Casā arms are thick and strong, and even though Dean is a big guy, sometimes it feels like thereās a little kid inside him that wants, that needs, that security of being held by big strong arms. He feelsā¦loāNO. Thatās the one that makes his teeth itch, every time. So he settles into the warm security of Casā arms and goes back to sleep, confident that in the morning he and Cas willā¦
The sun streaming through the curtains rouses Dean. The memory foam is still cradling him, but heās no longer warm. He reaches behind him, andā
āCas? Hey, Cas? Castiel? Hey, Doc? You in the bathroom?ā
But he knows Cas is not in the bathroom.
He looks at the chair by Casā side of the bed. Casā heavy shirt and vest are gone. So are his hiking boots.
The note on the dresser just says, āI have to. Iām sorry, Dean.ā Thereās a check for $25,000 under the note.
