Minho as a personal trainer (headcanon)
this whole post is me talking about how having Minho as a personal trainer looks like with Seon but mostly, a step by step of the development of Seon/Minho’s relationship through training. but this could be applied as a general headcanon.
/!\ these are MY HEADCANONS please do not come for me. if you disagree with me just ignore. /!\
though if there are any mischaracterizations or anything ooc, let me know ! i’m open to criticism, not hate speeches.
also these headcanons are heavily based on Seon’s lore so if anyone is interested in my oc, i recommend you to check some of the chapters and arts that i’ve listed on my maze runner masterlist !
✦ Minho starts silent training Seon, becoming a reluctant mentor, testing Seon physically (his ability, reflexes and such)
✦ Minho tests Seon deliberately in subtle ways that Seon doesn’t realize it’s actually the beginning of their training
✦ Minho begins “accidentally” giving Seon physically demanding tasks; Running messages, carrying things between zones. Seon struggles but never quits.
✦ Sometimes, he’d randomly call Seon and throw something to see if he catches.
✦ it’d happen so often that at some point, Seon won’t even have to look Minho’s way but simply catch whatever he’s thrown to him.
✦ the tests were easy for a reason. because when the real training actually starts bro is NOT going easy on you just because it’s the first time
✦ he is harsh, strict and doesn’t let anything slide. you fail ? do it again until you do it perfectly.
✦ i imagine him being veryyy stubborn about his rules for training. you want to learn from him ? do it his way otherwise he is not helping you.
✦ his experiences reflect his specific ways of training. many times had Seon underestimated and did everything the wrong way and failed every. single. time.
✦ “What’d I say Shuck face ?” with a satisfied smirk that’ll make Seon groan in response because he is always right.
✦ learn the basics from him then you’re free to do whatever the way you want it.
✦ he treats everyone indifferently, whether you’re good or not, he doesn’t play favorites.
✦ Seon finishing his 12th run around the Glade, while Minho checks the stopwatch:
S: Seriously ?? You must be counting it wrong.
M: Again. *ignores completely*
S: You’re so unfair you know that.
M: *kicks him in the knee* Slim it and run. Unless you want to do this until sundown.
S: ..Shucking Klunk head. *starts running faster*
✦ i can literally imagine Seon collapsing on the ground, barely even breathing, and Minho announcing the end of training and just walking past him 😭
✦ he sees it, acknowledges it, but will never say it out loud.
✦ if anything, he’s always the very first person to notice change.
✦ i think Minho is very quick at reading the room and very observant (again, has a very quick way of thinking and understanding imo).
✦ and he sees those same qualities in Seon too which is why he pushes him even more.
✦ since the very beginning, Minho never gives compliments or any compensations after training. and that’s actually a way for him to keep pushing Seon to constantly work harder.
✦ it actually works because Seon would feel like he’s not improving at all so he’ll continue to work harder, in order to get that validation from Minho. even when he actually is.
the start of a Runner’s journey
✦ Minho doesn’t coddle Seon. in fact, he never does; instead he challenges, snaps, drags Seon out of danger instead of explaining it.
✦ Minho always positions himself between Seon and danger during chaos (without acknowledgement).
✦ one day when Seon almost gets himself into real trouble, Minho says harsh words as way to give a slap back to reality.
M: If it happens again, i’m leaving your Klunk ass get crushed between those walls. Good that ?
Minho doesn’t say this to simply scold him for being distracted or fully blame him for his stupid behavior. it’s a reminder more than a reproach. if one wants to be a Runner, he cannot hesitate.
✦ that same night, Minho tosses Seon his water flask after a long run. No words. Just acknowledgement. This is huge for Minho.
✦ from then, Seon promises to himself to not let that happen again; whenever a dangerous situation occurs, right before Minho tries to take care of it instead, Seon reacts faster, almost instinctively.
✦ it’s a way to prove that he is capable of handling it, that he doesn’t need help; Minho sees, and approves.
✦ Seon becomes the finest runner right after Minho. it’s almost as if he has always been one, his old image of the quiet and clumsy Greenie long forgotten.
✦ Seon has an important role in the Glade, almost as much as the Keepers. When people speak of Minho, Seon comes up automatically.
✦ it is impossible to not talk about those two when speaking of Runners. If Minho is standing, Seon is always next to him; his right hand, his partner in crime.
✦ their closeness actually forms not through talking but through shared exhaustion.
✦ Minho correcting Seon’s posture once, through Seon copying Minho’s stretching routine without being told, through shared language (korean) moments again; short, sharp, unsoftened.
✦ When Seon actually becomes a real Runner, that’s when Minho starts compensating him, still very rarely.
✦ Minho shows constant acts of service; whether it’s him handing his water flask after a long run, patting Seon on the shoulder and squeezing it long before walking away, leaving the rest of his food to Seon at dinner, etc.
this has been rotting in my drafts for a while so here i serve !! :3
